Judge rules the court
Social issues The winded defendant, 20, rethinks his position.
By GREG HARDESTY
The Orange County Register

SANTA ANA – The 20-year-old defendant told the judge that marijuana made him a better basketball player.

"Oh, yeah?" replied Judge Marc Kelly, peering down at Alvaro Alvarez, charged with pot possession. "I'm a 42-year-old man. I don't think you can take me on."

Kelly challenged Alvarez to a game of one-on-one basketball - not only to try to beat him but to persuade him that dope won't help him win.

"Alvarez isn't so sure now that pot enhances his game."

"It really does affect you," Alvarez said. "It takes its toll. I'm considering quitting."

============

Considering?  Hasn't the guy figured it out yet?

He's not addicted.  He can quit anytime he wants to, right?

How about cutting some slack for all of us who use dope to alleviate nausea, pain and stimulate the appetite during Chemotherapy or aids or any number of conditions tthat dope helps.I would be throwing up,or  using anti-nausea pills that have a sedative effect which prevents my doing much for myself and don't suppress the nausea and with no appetite.

sometimes things which seem bad have a good effect.

There is a huge difference between using any drug for medicinal and recreational purposes. If someone was sawing my legs off, I'd sure want to be gone on morphine.

Hardcase,

I don't think any of us have a real problem with the medicinal use of any substance that relieves pain and suffering.  That is not the issue in this case.  The young man was in denial about the effects of pot on his body, his reflexes, or his mental capacity.  It is not to be used lightly by anyone, that is the issue.

Regards, Shuckins

Sure, that's no problem, take as much as you need, but when you're healthy, you don't need drugs.
