Title: Whiners and furry dice
Post by: hogenbor on September 10, 2002, 04:22:57 AM
I propose this to get an end to the whining about incorrect modelling:

- Collect unlimited funds
- Collect blueprints for every possible a/c in AH
- Rebuild them
- Fly them and record their flight performance data

BUT, even if this chain of events was possible, people would still whine:

- That kind of duraluminium was never used on Zeroes!
- Your tolerances are not representative of WWII production processes!
- Your november 1944 B-17 uses bearings in its turbochargers that weren't introduced before december!
- You used CAD/CAM to redesign the P51's pilot seat!
- You use the wrong lubricant! (in your engine I mean)
- The furry dice in your Hurricane gave you an unfair advantage!

(You can make the list as long as you want, you get the point)

As we all know, performance of individual aircraft can vary due to wear, repaired damage, overworked ground crews etc. Also small improvements were constantly made to every possible aircraft, in the field and on the production lines, to get the edge. Performance varies, people make mistakes and can become biased for a zillion reasons, also in recording flight data.

AH is a game, a simulation, made to have fun with, not to whine about. The best we can hope for is a fair approximation of what WWII aircraft would do. Consequently, we will always have (perceived) faults (and whiners).

Like the pilots in WWII, you have to fight with what you are given (or pay 15 $ per month for, in my opinion, that IS given). We have infinitively more choice than them, and if we suck, we can replane as many times as we want. They just died. So what do I care if a plane is porked or not? I'll just fly another. If you have an argument, fight it out in the dueling arena with identical planes and loadouts. Just don't forget the furry dice.

Perk the fuzzy dice!

I once had a game designer point out to me that squeaking and whining is a good thing.  It will happen no matter what, and just shows that your players care about the game.  It's when the whining stops that a developer needs to worry.

ya, just think.. the guys back in the day would have gladly paid $15 NOT to have to fly these planes.
