Title: What are your plans on 9/11/2002?
Post by: Ripsnort on September 10, 2002, 09:32:23 AM
Me...restock our emergency food, water and medicine (30 days supply of each) as I've done each year for the last 12 years.  I'm using 9/11 as a reminder date.

Say an extra evening prayer with the kids before tucking them in.

I'll continue to fly my Country's flag as I've done since I bought my first house.(You see, I, like a handful of others, was flag waving before it became fashionable).

I'll avoid TV coverage of the events taking place, and I'll certainly avoid the vivid images that took place...as I am still "not over it".

I completely understand Rip, flag goes up in the morning, comes down at Dusk.

Will not watch TV at all, in rememberence.

I'll probably take Ian (1yr old) and my wife out to dinner in tribute, because I brought them both home from the hospital last 9/11.

Plus, I'll log on and pass the time.

The Wife and I are going to rent a movie and try not to watch TV.  Any video suggestions out there? Was thinking about "We were Soldiers"

I found that movie pretty depressing

I'd think "Kate & Leopold" would be better. I know the wife would enjoy it more

As for us, no special plans - just alittle longer prayers/reflection as I remember those lost and give thanks for what I've been blessed with

Lol, you don't know my wife ;) She's an analyst working at the CIA, and loves a good war movie. But I'll take that under advisement

Might I suggest "Blood Beach" or "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" then.

I'll be going to school as usual. I'l also wear my "I'd fly 10,000 miles to smoke a camel" T-shirt. Later I'll say a prayer for those who we lost and those in harms way.

My sister is moving back to Cali from texas, so my GF and I are flying there to help drive the truck and car back.

We're all so very proud of you.

I'll be doing whatever I feel is appropriate in light of the anniversary, and I won't be judging others for doing what they feel is appropriate.

Sometimes it takes pain to harden our resolve. Just hoping we use intelligence and wisdom in our actions to get all the bastards responsible including those that would harbor them as the President once said.

I'll watch the Towers fall again, as many times as it takes to help me realize why we're throwing our weight around in the Middle East.

Looks like whatever you plan to do, at least you won't be bothered by telemarketers.

Telemarketing industry falling silent on Sept. 11

(09-09) 21:25 PDT OMAHA, Neb. (AP) --

Recognizing that many Americans won't be in the mood for getting sales calls, many of the nation's telemarketers plan to take the day off Wednesday.

I'll be sitting in the same office, at the same desk..probably working on the same set of financial statements  :)...that I was on 9/11.

I will say a few silent prayers and send my thoughts out to those who suffered and lost that day.

Strong endorsement for "We Were Soldiers" here.  I watched it with my wife and we both got choked up.  It'll really get you thinking about a lot of things, particularly in the context of modern political events.  I plan to buy it the next time my wife places her bulk order with Columbia House.

I've had a flag flying every day since 9/11/01.  First it was my colonial flag with the 13 stripes (the only one I had on hand and I couldn't find a modern one until months later), then a modern flag, and now a flag and a door decoration with a star on it.  I'm the only one on my block still flying an American flag.

Tomorrow morning I'm going to go for a morning jog, wearing my USA running suit, and cheer the Bayshore Patriots as they assemble for a peaceful display of American unity.

Then its back to work, trying to restore the American economy.

Later that day, I'll be donating my blood, just like I did a year ago.

Go with the local anesthetic.  Don't get gassed.  You'll recover quicker from the Novacaine, though it'll be a bit distressing to see your tooth coming out of your mouth.  I've had 4 wisdom teeth pulled, all at the same time.  Think of it as a test of your manhood.  The gas actually is more uncomfortable long-term because of the lingering effects, plus you'll have the same amount of blood and pain afterwards.

Yep! Natural diasasters.  I live 25 miles from a Volcano, and 12 miles from a fault line about the size of the San Andreas fault line...you can never be too prepared! :D

I also keep my Ford Truck with duel tanks filled up, about every 2 months I drive it and burn the fuel up, then re-fill it.  This would give me about 30 days of Generator fuel in case of an emergency, enough to run 6 hours of electricity a day.

Near Enumclaw...okay, near Buckley..now are you lost?  Look at a map of WA state, then look at Mt. Rainier.  Draw a line NNW of Mt. Rainier about 25 miles and you see a lake on the map, thats called Lake Tapps. We live across the street from Lake Tapps.  32 miles SSE of Seattle and 20 miles ESE of Tacoma.

So do I hold down the 'B' key and then set the altitude while I'm in the F6 mode?

Celebrate my 36th birthday by going out to a nice dinner with my wife.  I figure the bastards stole my 35th birthday, they aren't going to get this one.

Try to avoid breaking down at work when the church bells start tolling at 0846 (first impact) and the emergency vehicles sound sirens at 1027 (second collapse).

Get some work done, though not as much as I should.

Pray for the victims, pray for our military in harm's way, pray for our nation.

Try very hard not to surf the Internet from my cube, and fail.  But that's normal.

Heh, no bunker Bug! But yes, I'd have internet access since the lower part of the house is GenTran wired for the generator.  The best part is when we do lose power up here once or twice a year, I make an effort to turn my porch light on just to say "neener neener" to my power-less neighbors. :D

I ended up running 4 miles along Bayshore in my red, white, and blue USA running suit - in the rain.  I listened to the prayers and speeches along with thousands of other patriots.  It was very touching running down the road with the orchestra music carrying across the 6 miles of speakers they layed out. I almost felt like I was in a movie. If the weather had cooperated, the demonstration could've been a lot bigger than it was.

Went to work and didn't think about it.

911 was a freaky day last year. I worked at Crystal City (near the Pentagon). Everyone was really on edge and the two hour exodus from Arlington to Alexandria (seven miles away) was just surreal. Smoke filling the air, sirens going... talking heads in a near panic state all over the airwaves. F-16 fighters escorting airliners into National Airport... etc.

It was good to just keep my head down and get to the normal grind.
