Title: GeForce 4- need advice
Post by: AKSWulfe on September 10, 2002, 10:56:56 AM
Thinking of picking one up after work, has a 50$ mail in rebate so I thought "what the hell"... in 6 or so months I'll get 50$ in the mail.. and if not I get to squeak at someone and then get $50 in the mail 3 days later...  either way win/win for me!

So I need to know what I need to download.

I have Windows 98. I got the latest 30.82 (Aug 7 2k2) drivers.

What else do I need?

And if anyone says anything about "upgrading" to XP, I'll send Animal over to their house nekkid and jacked up on viagra.

Easiest way to O'Clock is by using CoolBits. If you want to have more options search proggie called  "rivatuner".

Copy text between lines to notepad and save file as a nvidia.reg
Then just double-click that file to install.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\NvTweak]
"CoolBits"=dword:00000003

I like rivatuner however there is no version for the 40.xx series of drivers yet.. (i think) its been a week or 2 since I checked

So at the moment I am just useing Reforce to solve the refresh rate probs in XP

The overclocking part of Rivatuner seems to work fine with the 40.41s to me.  (I just ran the executable to install the 40.41s, I did not uninstall the previous driver before upgrading.  The previous version was the 30.82s.)

Got it up and running using the 30.82 drivers, until I put XP on my machine (friday or next week probably).. used the coolbits reg entry... works fine.

Forgot to remove my the wickedgl stuff for the V5 out of some games... damn near had a conniption fit when I tried to run OpenGL games and they returned error messages.... got it all sorted out now and all games run much faster than before, and in some cases, nicer.

Staga: Animal is being sent to you via American Express in a small cage with a water bottle containing a mixture of life sustaining nutrients and proteins, water, and 300 pills of Viagra. He should be ready immediately upon arrival. Open with care. Expect him in 4 days.

Why bother overclocking a GF4?

Just buy R300 instead! :)

bloom, the overclocking in rivatuner is just the coolbits registry fix.  So even after removing rivatuner the overclocking is still possible

Just the refresh rate fix doesn't work with 40.xx
