ahhhh all 4 of mine were impacted.  No big deal,  enjoy the buzz :)  Smoke through your nose for the first 2 days if ya gotta have it.  In all 4 of mine, taken out in 3 trips, the most pain I felt was the IV from getting both bottom ones removed.  All in all I experienced less than 20 seconds of small pain.

If I could handle it you can :)

oh wow.. that blows.. I thought if you made it past about 20-25 the wisdoms wouldn't be a problem.. so much for that theory:(

I'm going to have "If you can read this, you're obviously trying to ram your liberal agenda down my throat again" on my wisdom teeth. ;)

Crap!

My dad had one of those in his early thirties.  It was absolutely horrific.  He was in the chair for hours.  Near the end the destist was swearing and had his knee on my dad's chest so he could get more leverage as he hauled and hauled on my dad's tooth.  It must been quite a show because the other dentists and the hygenists all spent there breaks in the door watching the spectacle.  There was blood everywhere.  Now my old man is old school.  A very tough man, but let me tell you, he was wiped out for a good week, totally flat on his back.  He's said he never felt more pain in his entire life.  :(

Anyway good luck. :)

Novacaine, a needle, and a pair of pliers.  Then some stitching, some gauze and a lot of rinsing.  Took out 4 wisdom teeth in the same operation this way.  People die from gas anesthesia, you know.  I'd rather watch my teeth come out than never wake up again.  The procedure was actually kind of interesting to watch, in a detached scientific sort of way.

this is what I had done june 1, 2001 .   Enjoy the buzz and do like the doc says.  If you're lucky you'll have skin back in the holes in 6 months.  Mine were bad and the holes are still filling up w/ skin.  That's the worst part.  No pain at all cept fer the IV which I didn't mind 2 seconds later lol!

He should have come to America and seen a real dentist instead of a dust mask wearing Canadian veterinarian :)

The joys of government health care ....

Military health care.  You think they would have at least hit him in the head with a mallet first. ;)

Unfortunately our health care doens't cover dental.

that's scarier than getting a tooth pulled !!!

I wouldn't want to be paying for this.

of course, I'd rather not have to deal with it at all

mine were easy coming out at 15.  all 4, plus an impacted canine tooth.  they gave me nitrous, then I didn't care what he did to me.  However, they sedated me, I came to in a wheelchair being put in a car.  Mom asked me if I wanted a milkshake and I mumbled a muffled no out through the gauze.  got home slept for awhile...

then got sick.  puked up all the blood the gauze hadn't soaked up the whole night.  Anti-swelling meds didn't work and I was chipmunked for most of the week.  Couldn't even close my jaws fully until the 4th day.  I tell ya, that grilled cheese sandwich I had that evening was the best thing I'd ever eaten until then.  Hell, anything that was chewable was heaven after 4 days of broth, jell-o and milkshakes!  ;)

Just wait and see bud :) I was scared each time I went to get some pulled out.  The bottoms where the scariest for me but ended up being the easiest.  Best thing about being on the IV is you don't have to HEAR anything ;)

Come to the con next year and we can compair sockets!

Had my wisdom teeth pulled at 16... the surgeon said he just cut the gum and they popped right out.  I was eating pizza later that day.

My dad has his wisdom teeth removed at 40.  He was laid up for a week afterwards.  The roots had actually grown around the jaw bone.

Word of advice to all... get them removed when you are young... cause it sure is gonna hurt if you have it done when you are older.

I had all 4 of mine done when I was about 23. They were impacted and growing in at funky angles. Doctor prescribed me valium and told me to take 3 an hour before my appointment. Shot me full of novocaine and I had to watch as had his assistant get me in a headlock while this guy put a knee on the armrest and twisted each tooth until it broke into a gazillion pieces. Let's just say that you can't inject enough novocaine to block out that toejam. I was bed-ridden for 2 weeks and could barely open my mouth because of the swelling. Ended up losing about 20 pounds. Whatever you do, don't smoke! Having dry socket is horrible.

Let's just say I never want to go through that again. If they offer you the option of anesthesia, by all means take it!

I had mine pulled last Xmas... they shot me full of novacaine, yanked all 4 out and sutured me up and sent me on my way.

I didn't swell up at all, the only pain I had that night was when I took the teabags (hey, he told me to!) off of the wounds... they had kinda healed together (the teabags and the wounds.. just blood clots)... but that pain was unimaginable... I grabbed a percocet and drank it down. 15 min later I was in lala land with no pain.

Had no problems after that, week later I went back got the suturs taken out and never saw the doc again.
