Post by: hyena426 on September 11, 2002, 04:51:02 AM
i got a problem with 2 diffrent computers that are my freinds,,,,,,,,,they both have geforce 2 mx tv outs 64mb,,,,i got the same,,but mine aint a tv out,,,,,,,but for some reason there computer is tring to use wrong driver for aces high, i have erased aces high on there computers file and all,reoaded,it still dont find his right drivers,so i reloaded his 3d drivers, said card is working fine, go reload aces high and its still picking up this one and only driver saying microsoft 3d {generic setting 3d i think}, how do i get aces high to read the right divers?,,its on 2 diffrent computers same card,,same problem

it won't display the geforce mx video card in card selection.

it says primary display adapter or something like that and thats fine
If they are having problems, .. its not likely this has anything to with it

i used to use a gf2 mx 32mb, it displayed the generic
I now use a gf4 mx and it still displays generic
but the game always has worked fine

im usinbg a geforce2 graphics card and i havent had a single problem since i updated my driver (used to get resets and all sorts of crud)

download the updated driver from wherever you get it from it should work

if not then

get rid of all graphics card drivers FOR ANY graphics card that is or was on the computer then install ONLY the geforce2 driver. (cant read the wrong driver if theres only one)

if that doesnt work then i cant help you

Hyena,

Go to The Guru of 3D WebPage (http://www.guru3d.com/) and read about the Detonator Destroyer program.  It should help you out.  The sight has a ton of info about nVidia Drivers.  They seem to NOT uninstall properly, when you update your drivers.  There are step-by-step instructions to help you get it resolved.

I had a GF2 MX that had tons of problems too... Mostly with Win2K.  You must also ensure that you have the proper Monitor driver (Just as important as your VidCard Driver).

Check the sight I referred to and your monitor drivers... I'll check back in here later...

Cyas Up!

Try Reformatting And Using Win 98 SE  I Believe My Tech When He Says OS's After That One Dont Handle Games As Well.
Also Take Into Consideration It May Be Time For A Format, I Upgrade My Hardware Constantly And Every 2 Parts I Replace Is Followed By  A Format For A Fresh Start.  Never Have Conflicts Or Serious Problems Just Need A Tweak Here And There.
Good Luck I Hope It Works Out .

Win 98 SE can handle more than 512 megs of ram .. just needs a little tweak ..no big deal.

I found this in my notes .. windows 98 doesn't like 512 mb of ram and you have to make some minor changes. At lest this thats my understanding.

"In your windows dir.find system.ini open it. scroll down.

paste this in under vcache, it makes windoze 98 reconise more than 389 or whatever ram.

[vcache]
maxfilecache=65536
chunksize=512"

The maxfilecache might have to be adjusted somewhat for 2 gigs of ram... I'll have to check

He shold consider a dual boot setup

Hyena it won't let u select anything but Primary display driver under windows XP, I know that for a fact...

Different older drivers may well be different i cannot confirm.

But as I said above my card(s)  (Gf2mx and gf4mx) only reports primary display device, in many games, with NO ill effects.

if you have to have XP, do what I did and install it on one drive (slave) while you have Win98 on other (master)

at boot you are given choice of going into XP for work or Win98 for play :)

well funny thing is,,before the computer messed up,,aces high use to read his driver as geforce 2 mx 64,,,but now is says primary microsoft 3d driver,,why would it change?,,,before hand it read it,,and now it wont,,lol,,does that make sence?,,lol,,,im thinking im going to have to delete that microsoft 3d driver if all else fails,,,its runing like poo,,jerky and grafics lag every time you shoot your guns,,it should not run like that,,,,,and it use to run like butter on the same computer with out any changes,,going to try anothere reformat and reloading of drivers,,and hopfully it will run good for him,,,,,i got windows me with ram bus,,and i never had any problems at all in 2 years,,but xp is alot diffrent,,,awww computers fun aint they?,,lol

The reported device in AH for the video card is what is being reported from DirectX.  AH has no control over this string.

I have absolutely no problems running AH on two boxes one with GF3 and XP Home and one with GF4 and XP Pro, in fact my frame rates went up when I upgraded from ME.  I run 30.82 drivers on both boxes and get FPS at monitor refresh rate on both with Anti aliasing x 2 on.  1024x768x32 on GF3 on 19" monitor at 100 refresh rate and 1280x1024x32 at 85 refresh rate on 22" monitor with GF4.  Both show in AH as primary microsoft 3d video card and I have no problems in any game.
