Here's a few shots of the 63rd Fighter Squadron on a recent nightly mission in the main arena. Postgate Red flight lead Sancho initiates the attack on VH outside an enemy airfield:
-
Peeling off from right echelon formation, Frenchy and Nomde follow at 2 second intervals. Their 3 500 lb bombs are armed and ready.
-
bombs away!!!
-
Intense anti-aircraft fire assaults us all the way in to the target but we stay focused on the target...
-
The enemy vehicle hangar is destroyed and our 3 P-47s make it home successfully. Nomde's plane suffered a hit to the main fuel tank, but thanks to the rugged strength of the P-47 (and a little fuel left in auxiliary tank), he makes it back alive with Frenchy and me.
"Red flight, assemble at angels 8 10 miles south of the target. We're going home!"

Nice!
