Are we ever going to hear these tapes or read the transcripts?
I'm still wondering if the passengers retook that plane, if the terrorists crashed it, or if it was downed by U.S. Fighters.
Anyone know of a page on the web that has portions of the transcript? Anything?

It depressed the toejam out of me then and it does now. Let them rest in peace, whether or not they rushed the terrorists is a mute point. The point being that besides insects and maybe some critters on the ground. No-one else perished at the hands of the bastards trying to bring it to Washington.

well, if the voice recorders would show something other than what we've been told we will never hear it. We've been led to believe that the heros rushed the cockpit and augered the plane. That may very well be the case. But if the plane were brought down by US fighters or if the hijacker pilots were inept and crashed...well.. we need our heros ..to avenge and wage war in the name of. the point is, we will probably never know.

Out of respect for family members (Yes, there are still *some* American officials that have respect) they'll probably never air them. After all, if your Dad or Mom, wife (thinking flight attendants, passengers) were in a life and death struggle, all recorded, and ended in tradegy, would YOU want to relive that nationally on the nightly news and subsequent programs to follow up the next 20 years?

You'll never hear the CVR tapes from that flight or any other by a US carrier. The Airline Pilots Association (ALPA) lobbied (successfully) for a federal law prohibiting the public release of CVRs. However, recordings from the control tower are excused from this restriction.
The closest you may ever get is a computer-generated model of the final flight based on the flight data recorder.
They haven't conclusively solved the mystery of that crash in NY a few days later, either, though I seem to recall a theory about a shift in the cargo hold causing the CG to change fatally.

I'm proud to say one of the passengers on Flight 93 was a Kiwi :) and his wife was interviewed. She was played the CVRs and his voice was clearly heard in the last moments during a struggle in the cockpit. His wedding ring was found in the cockpit debris as well.
Interviews with other relatives revealed they were on the phone right up til the point of impact and could hear it all happening. It was definitely the passenger vs terrorist struggle the brought the plane down, it was NOT shot down.

CVR transcripts are released when they have a Safety Board meeting,
not because it show's lack of respect for the family members.
From the NTSB:
http://www.ntsb.gov/aviation/CVR_FDR.htm
The CVR recordings are treated differently than the other factual information
obtained in an accident investigation. Due to the highly sensitive nature of
the verbal communications inside the cockpit, Congress has required that the
Safety Board not release any part of a CVR tape recording. Because of this
sensitivity, a high degree of security is provided for the CVR tape and its
transcript. The content and timing of release of the written transcript are
strictly regulated: under federal law, transcripts of pertinent portions of
cockpit voice recordings are released at a Safety Board public hearing on the
accident or, if no hearing is held, when a majority of the factual reports are
made public.
From ALPA:
http://www.alpa.org/internet/search.html
Pilots Oppose Release of CVR Tapes
ALPA is absolutely opposed to the release of CVR tapes. By law, the NTSB must
make public a transcript of the relevant portions of the CVR tape as part of
an ongoing accident investigation. Release of the tape serves no accident
investigation purpose.

Even if it was shot down, I'd say WTG to the US Air Force...that plane was headed for either the Capitol or Congress. (What did I just say? )
-
There are recordings of the passengers phone conversations, and independent witnesses (phone operators) who heard or overheard the intent "I'm boiling water", the plan "Some of us are gonna rush the hijackers", and the command "Let's roll". Even if nothing else happened, they are heroes.
-
The wife of the guy that said 'lets roll' was on the phone, but couldn't handle it, she passed the phone over to the father who listened to the fight. During the fighting the plane crashed. After seeing all the interviews with relatives who were talking to the passengers at the time I'm 100% sure they weren't shot down.

READ IT and pay particular attention to the last few paragraphs, CVR recorded
http://www.msnbc.com/news/802759.asp?0cl=cR
“Yes, that’s the government theory, that they actually got inside,” says Longman. “Near the end you hear in english words, ‘Roll it up,’ and ‘lift it up,’ or ‘turn it up,’ or ‘pull it up.’ The families have taken that as a sign that the passengers and perhaps crew were trying to regain control of the plane.”
“The government’s theory is that the passengers did actually reach the cockpit using a food cart as a battering ram and a shield,” says Longman.
Why do they think that?
“Well, from enhancement — digital enhancement of the voice recorder, there’s the sound of plates and glassware crashing near the end of the flight,” says Longman.

For those who want to read released transcripts of CVRs,
this is a good site:
