The latest issue of Flypast shows pictures of RAF Kittyhawk IV's (P-40Ns) bombed up for a jabo mission against Venice. Each plane is carrying 3 bombs, at least 250lb, maybe 500lb. AHT doesn't mention a 3 bomb loadout for any model of P-40. Anyone know what this loadout was, and was it standard? Could they carry MG ammo too?

Ja, 6x0.50 or 4x0.50 & 1500lbs external (i think centerline was intended for tanks only, but it was used for bombs...probably not too good an idea to drop from the centerline at a steep dive angle)

AH has the P-40B and P-40E. The P-40N was a much later revision of the airplane.

I've been enjoying the P-40E over the past week. It's a capable lil' plane. Can turn with most anything and has a quick dive. The six .50's do a good job. The one dissapointing thing though is to only have one 500lb'er for JABO. Did the P-40E carry rockets?
Would be nice to get a P-40N in Russian markings in the next plane additions.
