Title: What is wrong with this troop drop?
Post by: beet1e on September 17, 2002, 05:36:48 AM
This picture is of V70, moments after it received a carpet bombing. I dropped troops, but the capture failed. What is wrong? I thought both acks were down, and no GVs were present.  Looking at the picture after the event, I notice a light coloured area under the para second from right. Doh!  Is this an ack? If it is an ack, why isn't it firing? And given that it wasn't firing, why no capture?

Could be a manned ack.

Manned acks have no tracers except to the people shooting them.  ya never see em coming untill you're missing a wing.

Except if it's me manning the ACK, since I am too lazy to turn tracers back on for field gunning ;)

That looks like the North ack, which is the mannable ack at a V base.  The sly bastige waited for the drop, then nailed your troops.

More likely, he popped in at the last moment, too late to shoot you but in time to kill at least one troop.

The problem is obvious.

Those are bish troops.  First thing they did when they hit the ground is start looking for sheep.  None of them made it into the map room because there are no sheep there...

Even if you have tracers turned on, nobody else sees the tracers coming out of the manned ack.  And yes, that is a manned ack that is up at the field.  He just killed your troops as they ran into the maproom.
