Hi
I'm using a GF4 4200 128mb and was wondering about overclocking. Just how exactly do you overclock the 4200 and which software do you require to do so? What settings do you need to change? Any drawbacks?
I'm using Win XP & the latest detonator drivers.

Here's a link provided by Pongo in another thread that will answer your question:

If you just want to overclock it all you need to do is reveal the NVidia's own overclocking thingie.
Copy text between lines to notepad and save as nvidia.reg. Double-click to install and after that you'll find couple extra sliders from where you have Direct3D and OpenGL settings.
Coolbits:
_____________________________ ________________
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\NvTweak]
"CoolBits"=dword:00000003

I overclocked mine with th tools in the drivers. I don't remember if I had to do anything special to enable them... I don't think so. You can always get PowerStrip as well.
http://www.guru3d.com is a great source for stuff like that.
I think I'm running my Ti4200 128 at 310 Mhz core and 580 Mhz RAM? I'll take a look when I get home. I didn't really test it, just looked up some benchmarks on the web and picked what I figured was a "safe" OC for the card.

Is there a way in AH to test the efficiency of overclocking ?
I've no other game than AH so a Quake 3 benchmark won't help me :)

Thanks for the replies.
I'm using Detonator Drivers 40.41 yet I cannot find any built-in overclocker for the GF4. I may give one of the other programs a look that's if someone can tell me where you get to the overclocking part of the Det Drivers? Checked all the tabs, can't find it?
Cheers

Ah, found it.... as Staga mentioned you need a registry hack 'Coolbits' to enable a new 'Clocking' tab to appear in your GF control.
Lephturn, can you check exactly what settings you're on, I think that would be a good starting point!
Thanks again! :)
