Il-2 graphics are stunning, specially in cockpits.

Yea but IL2 muzzle flashes are far too big for LW planes. I'm guessing they made them all like on the Soviet cannon and ammo which were very loose in tolerances and produced huge balls of fire according to every real life IL2 and even some Soviet postwar film clips I have seen. Luftwaffe, RAF, US aircraft weapons had much smaller muzzle flashes as seen on wartime footage.
-
Yea.. the muzzle flashes are the most eye sticking in the graphics
-
You wussies ! There is Stuka available with historical dive bomb procedure and you didn't post any screenshots of it ?
Get back to the game ;)
-
Here is the best one, freaking ironic....
-
shows one of the best features of the game - non radar guided ack fire
but a couple of questions:
does anyone else have trouble knowing when they are hit as sometimes there isn't any noise to go along with the damage
does anyone know how to open up the text buffer to read old messages
is there a ctrl d or something to show damage list
why do the majority of the dogfight sessions allow the cockpits to be turned off
-
WOW!!
Nice screen shots... I didn't realize that IL2 had such nice graphics...
Will a PIII 700 w/ a GF1 card run this game???
-
Eagler.. even if that AA fire is a tank's main gun? +)
You would be pushing your luck Modas...
The stuka divebomb system.... remotely close to historic maybe...
Oleg has admitted muzzle flash for MG's is abit exaggerated, not sure if he's fixin that in FB or not.
Eagler use mouse drag the bottom right corner of text box, use pageup to see old text (i think)
No to damage list
the not hearing hits.. is a bug.. i experience that one too..
pretty game

Eagler, by chat I assume you mean the text thing you can access with the this `...
if that's the case, if you type simply "<" without the quotes into where you type, it will bring up everything from what has been loaded initialized, and will also allow you to scroll up the messages.
The trick is, it's opposite, you just click in the bottom window, hold and move the mouse either up or down. Up will make it go down and down will make it go up.
Confused yet?
:)
Also, do you fly on Hyperlobby? If not, you should... hyperfighter.jinak.cz And the dogfight rooms, look for the ones that have "FR" listed in their title. It means Full Real... PL is Padlock, I only fly on those dogfight servers. Usually some better pilots there too.
As for damage, Oleg was supposed to have fixed that with the online game in v1.1.... like other things he was supposed to have fixed... they didn't quite get it.
If any of you guys have GF4s or Radeon 9700s, turn on the Stencil Buffer... and run it in OpenGL... almost every form of smoke has a shadow, the stratosphere clouds (I dunno they're called, but not the puffy ones), and trees will reflect in the water.

Hehe,...I thought someone had mounted flame throwers on that plane. That's muzzle flash? Woah.
-
Unfortunately, yes Skuzzy.. and those cowl guns... they are only 7.92mm...
Has the muzzle flash bigger than that of Browning .50s....
Which explains why they are damn near useless in the 109 and 190 in Il2... can't see through the muzzle flash to aim reasonably at the planes.

IMO, it is the best and so far never modeled in any sim. Watch the target while approaching through glass window on bottom of your cockpit. At 1500 m cut throttle and engage airbrake. The plane enters a dive. Check angle on side of your canopy. At 600 m the warning sound tells you to pull up. Drop the bomb and autromatic leveling system will pull you out of your dive.
All of it is historical, I even heard that auto leveling system was limited to 6gs, didn't check that in the game.

Il2 is simply the best WWII simulation to date. The physics engine, the graphics, the amount of flyable (hi fidelity) aircraft are amazing.
On the "to-do" list for the future with il2 involves online play.
Once oleg creates a dedicated server that handles the networking aspect of multiple players, i think we will have a new online king.
Only time will tell though.
Im not being a cheerleader, just a watcher of trends. Il2 has definately sparked a new revolution in combat flight simulation technology.
Along with an already excellent product, Oleg's team has shown that they are Extremley dedicated to their product as well as the hardcore simulation fans from around the world. I have not seen a SINGLE company go as far as to support and allow after products for future additions.
The up and comming Forgotten Battles looks to be as magnificent as when Il2 first came about.
as time goes on...

Il2 has the best graphics of any WWII simulation to date.
Has a pretty good FM and DM- but both are deficient in their own ways.
That's about where it ends.
Hopefully FB will be the best WWII game... but Il2 is deficient in many areas for a boxed game.

mih il2 = eycandy PERIOD. not much else good about it. AH doesnt lag by much and who really cares what your cockpit looks like when your in the middle of a dogfight anyway. cockpits are about being able to understand what things do and be able to read them. played the demo of il2 and since i have no joystick i couldent fly/aim worth beens had no clue where i was on the map and had no CLUE what my altimeter and speedomter were or said.
and it takes forever to load and is a little laggy on my rather good machine
1.2ghz amd athlon xp
256 mb sdram
nvedia geforce2 graphics card

i dunno hristo i am annoyed i cannot drop all ord at once, or even select that which i want to drop.
As soon as you drop any bomb the pullout sequence initiates.. dunno if thats realistic or not..
I'd rather the system wasn't there +)

I think one way to go around that is to turn off speed brake, release bomb, turn on speed brake and drop last bomb.
cockpits do look very nice
