Title: All you old AW heads
Post by: Saurdaukar on September 19, 2002, 06:36:04 PM: With the recent influx of new cannon fodder, I see alot of old AW guys, however Im also aware that some of them have different handles than in the "olden days." I'd love to know who made the jump and who did not, post here and let us all know.

Haven't see ya up at all, though I've only been signed up for about 2 months now. Been away from online sims for about 4-5 years. I still got the ol mediocre skills of long ago, with occasional peaks of glory:)

Started in FR as a member of the Krait Squadron, but also played RR during the last year or so.... initially joining the Black Sheep Bombers in AW3, then joining the Hell Gods in AWMV :)

Came to AH with the Kraits, but recently started a second account so that I could rejoin my old RR squad too....

In 2000, Moved to FR with The Damned as ATC. Was Staff for AW, cpid: Bob. I used to write TOS letters to some of ya. :)

I was part of the ^Skull^ squadron in RR on AOL, then made the jump to FR, both Euro and Pac depending on which map and planeset was active at the time. The squad numbers started to dwindle as the game changed services to Gamestorm and then EA, until finally we're nothing more than an email list with former Skulls flying for the MOL, the Shillelagh, and others. Some ^Skulls^ members currently on AH are Whels, Vermillion, and Runny.

"4580" was my AW tailnumber back in the GEnie days
of $700/month online flying bills.

I used "=GB=" as my CPID once we went to alphanumeric ID's.

Started out as "Seadog" ( BB is the only one that still calls me
that occasionally ) then became "Gypsy Baron" and remain
so to this day.

I go by "GypsyB" here in AH...

Used to fly around with Maverick for some 20-30K hog fights and got to know Whels as well!

Seems like so long ago...

Unfortunately, no I don't see or hear from Necro et al anymore (Except for Phantom (Rino) and Joker, who have also become members of the Damned in AH). But I dunno, I think I feel a bit of a revival among the community with Ol Buggers comin back so hopefully they will de-lurk sometime soon.

As I said, I basically left the game in '96 when I moved to Vancouver and then came back for about a month or 2 or AOL in '97 and then poooooooooffff I was gone.

Flew Az RR with the Mercenary Sheep under the following CPID's
LtKil and HLNAS

Moved to FR and joined the 327th Steel Talons. I found a home and have been with these gents ever since...
I changed my CPID to BOOT due to the CTD's that were too numerous to mention when AW tried to update to AWMV.

I fly ROOK's in AH, am the Group Executive Officer of the 327th Steel Talons and still fly under the CPID of BOOT

Oh yeah, one more thing...

Im still not any good but I still have a ball... (and at least getting killed even looks cool in AH) :)

Deader in my early days in AW, end of '90 or so.

Gray Eagle when I left the Warthogs and b-land, and returned to C-land.

Aggressors was the first squadron I was in (LOL) ..useda piss off Mullah and others no end ..we were *really* bad.

Warthogs ..where I met Fence-dweeb and still dont much care for him to this day due to his actions. A real wannabe.. he'd fit right in with the 'Generulz' in AH.

Damned .. then FUBAR .. now Damned again :)

-GE aka 1326 or 668 (kesmai account when I began workin there) .. GE in AH.. havent been up for awhile.. will be again, soon .. tho.

Post by: Alpo on September 22, 2002, 07:14:31 AM: Started AW2 not long after it came out (RR ETO). During closed Beta for AW3 actually learned I COULD fly FR and LIKE it! :D Stayed FR until the transfer to AH.

Most of the squad came to AH after the EA mess started... best move ever made.

I started flying during AW3 and was 'fuze' and flew RR and FR with The SPECIALISTS, I was painted red with a big 'B' tatooed on my forehead there. I was promoted to CO before EA.com folder it.
Most of the squad came over to AH after awhile and fly as 'fuzeman' here.

There was a Az 'fuze_' in AW3 and somehow he managed to aquire 'fuze' in AH even though I'm signed in here as fuze. I still can't figure that one out. He flys in AH as a Bishop.
There was also a 'FUSE' who initially flew AH as Rook, but switched to Knights. He had a different AW handle and I can't remember what it was there and don't want to guess and get it wrong.

Anyway, on the roster I'm the fuze(man) with the lowest score, unless I don't fly for a week or so. Then after an hour I'm back with the lowest score.
THAT's the only reason I care about my score :D

Of course, now with the voice coms I frequently get called some variation of "Sharon", which takes away a bit from the whole "Pilot of the River of Death" aspect behind the name :)

That would be AW4W on AOL - Dos SVGA and VGA AW versions preceded that a few years for Apple Macs, Amigas as well as PCs on the same host. AW4W subsequently became AW Classic. :)

Before the advent of the AOL Host, there were a number of hosts for Dos AW - USA, UK, Greece, Australia and a slightly different licenced version in Japan. They ran quite a few years before AOL

Upon entering AH someone took my cpid but never played so i had the CPID of Rhino for a bit then asked HT if i could have my 6GUNS CPID back. So 6GUNS it is and 6GUNS it shall stay.

When AW changed to handles I was "creatively challenged" and chose 715 as a handle as well. I think was the only player allowed to keep a numeric handle. I've been some version of 715 in Confirmed Kill, Warbirds, and Aces High (except for a period as Mojave on Warbirds).

By the way- you young'ens don't know how good you have it now at $14.95/MONTH. On GEnie not only was AW $6/HR, but I had to reach GEnie via long distance (another $6/HR).

We fly for Bishops in AH as No. 441 Squqdron, 144 Wing RCAF. Our squad is loaded with ex AirWarriors.

Aces High rocks much more than Air Warrior did. We are glad to be here.

I was Eagle in the AOL AW closed beta, BldEagle in the open AOL AW, then NHawk in GS and here.

Many of the Buffalos are here, including Buff1, Baba, Saber, Pack and others. Coach01 (Coach in AW) is retained in AH and in our squad posthumously.

Ah yes, crud, now there's a game the entire family can play!

You sure that was '96 Shaky? I could have sworn it was '95 that I was at (Houston, at the Windham I believe). There was definitely lots of crud being played though. I seem to recall Robert Shaw getting the first game going that year.

Its all fun and games until someone gets a pool ball stuck in their ear!

Pretty sure this was the 'con in Orlando, that was '96. Might have been the DC con, when was that?

edit: OK, DC 'con was in '94 or '95 I think. Did we go DC-Houston-Orlando-Houton?

'95 was the 'full contact' crud game with Mouse and Toast (Tim Desmarais of FPUSA).

The '94 'con had the full contact crud thing going on too, I think :) I'm pretty sure we played in '96 as well, and that was the year Ket got dropped in the lobby.
