Congrats HTC... it's a wonderful experience, isn't it?

Magee starts to make much more sense without somebody barking in your ear, right?  ;)

Did they cut your shirttail off?

Anyway, next con, yer buying the first one now!

Good luck... and don't get overconfident. Look at the stats on the accident rate in the first 200 hours.  ;)

Have fun!

Ah, now that this cryptic message has been explained - WTG HiTech on your first solo!  :D

I remember when Zeb did his back in 1988, I was nervous as hell the whole time as I waited for him in the flying club bar.... first clue I had it was going ahead was when the CFI came back into the club alone after his check flight.... which meant it was 'on'! :)

WTG HT

Now the fun starts, I remember the first time the big loud one was gone and it was just me. You are on cloud nine for a week. I remember going to a pay phone and calling every one I thought would care (and a few who prob. diden't).
Keep at it and saver the freedom we have in this great country that allows us to fly as privet citizens. When things don't go well in life and work is a squeak, go up for an hour, the concentration on flying makes all the B.S. kind of go away and it puts things in perspective.
You will rember this day for a long time, I stated makeing little notes in my log book and still look back on flights from long past .
I really recomend putting details in your log so 10 years from now you can look back and relive these heady times. Have fun and be safe, now get back to work.:D

High Flight
John Gillespie Magee, Jr.

Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth1,
And danced2 the skies on laughter silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed3 and joined the tumbling mirth4
Of sun-split clouds5 and done a hundred things6
You have not dreamed of -- Wheeled and soared and swung7
High in the sunlit silence8. Hov'ring there9
I've chased the shouting wind10 along and flung11
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long delirious12, burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights13 with easy grace,
Where never lark, or even eagle14 flew;
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space15,
Put out my hand16, and touched the face of God.
Quote
FAA Supplement to “High Flight”
1  Pilots must insure that all surly bonds have been slipped entirely before aircraft taxi or flight is attempted.
2  During periods of severe sky dancing, crew and passengers must keep seatbelts fastened. Crew should wear shoulder belts as provided.
3  Sunward climbs must not exceed the maximum permitted aircraft ceiling.
4  Passenger aircraft are prohibited from joining the tumbling mirth.
5  Pilots flying through sun-split clouds under VFR conditions must comply with all applicable minimum clearances.
6  Do not perform these hundred things in front of Federal Aviation Administration inspectors.
7  Wheeling, soaring, and swinging will not be attempted except in aircraft rated for such activities and within utility class weight limits.
8  Be advised that sunlit silence will occur only when a major engine malfunction has occurred.
9  "Hov'ring there" will constitute a highly reliable signal that a flight emergency is imminent.
10  Forecasts of shouting winds are available from the local FSS. Encounters with unexpected shouting winds should be reported by pilots.
11  Pilots flinging eager craft through footless halls of air are reminded that they alone are responsible for maintaining separation from other eager craft.
12  Should any crewmember or passenger experience delirium while in the burning blue, submit an irregularity report upon flight termination.
13  Windswept heights will be topped by a minimum of 1,000 feet to maintain VFR minimum separations.
14  Aircraft engine ingestion of, or impact with, larks or eagles should be reported to the FAA and the appropriate aircraft maintenance facility.
15  Aircraft operating in the high untrespassed sanctity of space must remain in IFR flight regardless of meteorological conditions and visibility.
16  Pilots and passengers are reminded that opening doors or windows in order to touch the face of God may result in loss of cabin pressure.

WTG old timer.

Flying, as you discovered is a breeze, just remember to keep an eye on:

Airspeed,
Altitude,
Pitch,
Bank,
Fuel level,
Where you are,
Where you are going,
Your proximatey to class B,
Conflicting traffic.

Watch all that and you will have no problem.  :)

Keep at it, it becomes easier as you go and more fun.

WTG HT!

Now tell us your ratio of landings to patterns...

L = P - perfect patterns
L > P - Bounced a few in
L < P - Took a few bad approaches around without landing

;)

Everything is SOOOO much better and easier without an instructor onboard, but you sure hear a lot of beeps, squeaks, groans, vibration, and rumblings that you never heard before...

So Eagl, you want to tell him, or should I, about how rough an engine starts to sound when you are going out on a solo cross country?  :)

WTG HT, I soloed in March of last year , then a year later finally got my P. Pilot license in SEL(number of planes and sevicebility not good, why it took so long).

Well Animal, I just recently got my Driver's license , I knew well how to fly before I could drive(thanks to HTC :D ),in fact I'm much more afraid of driving than flying, especially driving in this Isle as some  may well know.

Good job Hitech!  Life will never be the same.  Put the shirt-tail in a frame, and get it on a wall in your office.  I didn't do that and found my solo "tail" in the rag pile.......my wife thought I ripped my shirt!  And she wonders why she was the "first" wife. ;)

I'll never forget my solo flight... my engine quit.

500' off the ground on climb out and then total silence (except for the wind whistling through the wires).

"Perfect!" thinks I.

I pushed the stick forward, gained a little speed and kicked in some rudder and aileron to bring me to a heading toward my field. Then I reached up and started pulling the starting rope for all I was worth. It finally caught, and I was able to abort the emergency landing.

The thought that goes through your mind when you lift off that first time alone is, "OK, got it off the ground, now I have to get it back down. What have I done?!" You're very aware of everything going on around you, hyperalert, and stuff goes into slow motion.

I do have to say, playing flight sims probably did as much to prepare me to fly (and my first inflight emergency) as did all my actual training. I didn't so much as think about what to do when it happened, I just reacted. Just like in the game, when an engine croaks, the first thing to do is to put the nose DOWN.

BTW Sorta doing it backwards.

FAA took 4 months on medical.

Allready have all instruction except for checkride prep complete. The short and soft fields are great fun.

Got my tail wheel, flying a cub and super decathalon, along with few hours of acro. Currently getting checked out for an RV8 that wants to have my name on it.

And a fairly unique thing is my first log book entry is a TF-51D.

And yes, the 172 is still in nice and shiny shape.

Thanks gents.

Congratulations Dale dood :)

Yer logbook sounds a bit like mine :)
C-172, Aeronca Champ, Stearman PT-17, TF-51D ..
..then there's the C-180 a friend let me fly to Vegas from Ontario that got me 'in the mood' to go for the license to begin with.. we flew up and landed on a dry lake for the quarter scale R/C Nats one year long ago .. it's the only way to 'arrive' at an R/C show :)

I still get all smiley rememberin some of the planes I have been lucky enough to fly.. and some of the stuff I was able to do in them.
The Mustang with Lee was still the best time I have ever had in a machine on this planet :)
He still doesn't beleive I only had 17 hrs of Dual when we danced.

-GE (ground school instructor had the right of it when she said she envied me .. so many 'firsts' to look forward to .. she said 'wait till I fly a Pitts ..they are FUN' -evil grin- ..haven't yet .. but it's on my list :)

Congratulations HT,

I remember my first solo,

we have a tradition in Napoli Intl Airport, when the pilot land the first solo, the tower (that it's obviously informed that this was a first solo) said :

"Benvenuto, Comandante...." that mean : "welcome captain"

You take off as a recruit and come back as pilot.

Nice sensation, indeed :)
