It's apparently required reading for all potential flag-rank Officers in the U.S. military, and addresses the issue of 'mandatory service' vs. 'all volunteer/professional military'.

p.s. It contains some great material on the Korean war as well. Fehrnbach was an Army Officer in an armored unit during the Korean war.
