Title: AH unplayable tonight.
Post by: Urchin on September 22, 2002, 07:24:06 PM
Massive warps even with only 6 guys in icon range.  According to everyone else, I'm not the only one having problems.

Host Queue looked a lot like a seismograph.

Don't see any problems with the connection when I use pingplotter, average 50 ping or less on every hop out with no packet loss.  So... whats the problem?

Last night was the worst ever for me. Frame rates at 35-46 when I am always at 70 or better.

2 Disco's and a semi constant Beacon light.

This is all new! What's going on?

I had to pull out. My 51 was engaged with an F6F, Spit XIV and one other. Everytime they or I managed to sit in 6 position, I and they would warp to new locations. Very bizarre. We continued to fight like this for sometime.  I think just because it was so bizarre LOL.  But it made the game unplayable and I left following my Lag death into the mountain side with an F6F at my 6.

Definately the worst ive ever seen it.

This is not just tonight, the problem has been everynight once numbers get over 400. What happened to the new server that was being tested? Why was it only up one day?

From UK host cue was real bad to MA i did not even try playing and talking of seismographs we just had a 4.6 earthquake run through central UK waking those sad enough to already be in bed  :)

Big packet loss today, didn't even log on.

Have no idea where it was being lost..

I suck on Sundays anyway..

Logged into the dueling arena, good connect and got my keester handed to me twice by SFOX...

The no doubt about it, a keester kicking..

I suck on Sundays anyway..

Especially in a spit ;)

Dam little flitty things..

It was a 4.6  Must have been worse where you were. I was in a pnzr at the time. Took me a few seconds to realise that firing the main pnzr gun should'nt make the house shake :D

UK connections have been porked all day anyway thanks to Verio NET (see my post and many replies in the internet connectivity forum). CT was fine BTW. Just logged off from 2 of the best hours dogfighting I have had.

I'm going to have to agree here.  Good pings, but MAN was it warpy.

I'd like to think that's why I flew so pitifully poor tonight, but now such luck.

Still, I had about 12 aircraft warp out of sight as I was about to fire.

There is a new session of the Klez Virus doing the rounds, its 130Kb so if theres enough of it - then it may well increase net traffic. I got quite a few hits from it in the weekend.

Servers seem to be quite over-loaded.   I don't think AH is going to grow very muhc beyond a certain point until this is resolved.   I heard alot of new names tonight with questions along the lines of "Is it always THIS bad?"

It would be a shame to spend so much on advertising and then not be able to deliver a good first impression.

Delay variance in the MA was horrible. Logged into the CA and smooth as silk there.

I usually have very good connects, but tonight was rediculous... cant tell you how many Niki's were warping out the old piper.  :D

Seriously, yesterday was unacceptable in terms of service quality. I was avg. 380ms for MA/SEA and with this much delay the game becomes unplayable. The culprit, as usual, Verio.
I wish HTC would do something about it, especially in face of possible influx of new players from the ad campaign they are running.

Both from ISDN and cable connection from Holland (tried both con's) game was unplayable this whole weekend!!!

The variance in delay graph looked like a hard beat monitor.

When I took hits from a Spit that indicated 1.9k distant to my front, I knew the lag was too rediculous to fly and logged off. It was much better this morning, but I only had 30 minutes to fly before work.

This was the worst lag I ever recall seeing in the MA.

My regards,

Pretty weird experiences on Sunday for sure!

The part that really frustrated me was losing vox comms with my squaddies all night long.  Then the text lag was incredibly bad as well so that your warnings or attempts to let others know your intentions were useless.

The most memorable were the really lagged deaths.  I knew things were really amiss when I chased a P-47 off of a squadmate taking off his left wing.  I watched the P-47 go nose down thinking that he was not flying anymore and then to my surprise the plane came right back up wing gone and all!

So I dive in again and blow off his right wing - and he keeps on flying!  I was so shocked at this point and laughing at the shear insanity of it all.  What was left was just the silver cylindrical fuselage flying around the sky like a rocketship!  He finally disco'd.  The insanity lasted at least 20 seconds after I shot off his 1st wing.

Does anyone have an explanation? I mean, an official explanation?

How about just a viable excuse?

Was unplayable for me as well.

I tried to stick it out though and judge the warps, got a few kills, the warpage was just too much to tolerate though.

Every flight was the same:
wheels-up, climbout, approach fight, Lose UDP, attempt to "use the force" before the warp, get discouraged, land, relog, repeat.

Logged off and ran a pingplot, E-mailed the output to my ISP complaining of large amounts of packet loss on their hops.

I'll probably get some pimply faced youth try to tell me to reconfigure my IP settings, at which time I'll ask for someone more knowledgable. I respect those guys, I did that job 10 years ago, but I know they're just using an idiot's knowledgebase.

We should get 'lag' days off at work...?

I.E. when it's laggy on Sunday, we should be allowed an extra day off to effect a some non-laggy time on Monday :)

it definately was laggy.. flew one sortie and that was enough.
The only thing I managed to bag was a B17 group inbd to our base low and slow.

Thanks.. whomever you were..

Anyone read the Skuzzy news?

Can someone translate it for those of us who have no idea what he's talking about?

Could be the "test" arena, if it's not the test arena, but infact Skuzzy is talking about the normal MA, I need a translation aswell...

Once again I find myself in the minority regarding this issue.

Sunday seemed fine to me as far as warps go...the text buffer did have some intermitant lag and my beacon flickered 3-4 times in 3 hours but the MA was very playable for me.

Some of my squadmates experienced serious warpage though and it did get very annoying to them.

I tend to stay away from the massive base capture situations as well as huge furballs, maybe that's why,  don't know.

The interesting thing is that I very rarely get the UDP to TCP switch, maybe 4 times since v1.10, so maybe it realy does have something to do with the quality of service from my ISP...again, I just don't know.

I have a sneeking feeling that the server move won't be the fix all that most here think it will be....I surely hope it is though.

Sunday night in the MA  was not entertaining... The lag was pathetic... IT reminded me of opening a Dbase file Query with 30 thousand records and Norton antivirus running in the background...Flying was ok but just clicking between hanger and tower was like pulling teeth and text lag was hilarious....

I couldn't hit anything last night.  May as well have been using water pistols.

Of course, that is not necessarily atypical for me. . . . Could be the beer . .

funny thing happened to me i was in a typhoon went up to get a p38 at d175  and light him up but just flys on like nothing happend . I also got a lot of UDP/TCP switchs followed by a host connect lost a few minutes latter happened 2 times in the CT and 3 times in the MA I rarely get these host disconnections I guess it was just a bad night to be on the net.

Flew for about 45min this am and no problems at all

Mustang and I merged almost HO....about 20 degrees from 12.......mustang fired and went by.......about 30 seconds later I hear shells hitting my craft, and no one near to fire.  Logged pings were horrible and varied widely in ms.

I've been trying to get back into the MA after taking a break, and 5 times in a row, "Host Connection Lost", then the program locks up. Normally, my conn is dead stable. If there are this many people complaining of it(the discoes, not the lockups), it obviously isn't an isolated thing.

yeah what paulieb said... at this time  1:30-1:35am CST trying to connect to MA results in host connection lost... DA is fine...

My queue time flatlined at 100ms, though I'm sure it was much higher than that.  Warps all over, and a full loadout of rubber bullets.  I flew once then logged.  I hope tonight is better.

When I logged in at 12:30am CT, total numbers were under 200.  So I'm recanting my argument to FBFalcon that it's the pipe.  Ping time at the arena login screen was 59-60 as always, but the host queue time was through the roof.
