Got engaged... :D
-
I got the PERFECT gift for an aging '60's dude.
Intel Pocket Concert Audio Player, 128 MB memory. Small, light, great sound... and ABSOFORKINGLUTELY skip-free, COMMERCIAL FREE music of MY choice.
Easy to take where ever I go... like on my 4 day trips.... Makes the workout time much more pleasant at the gym; no more Disco Donna Summer thumping over the speakers for the housefrau aerobic classes.
I am in HEAVEN.
Anybody remember Cinnamon Girl (Neil Young & Crazy Horse)? Hoochie Koochie Man (Steppenwolf)? Stairway to Heaven (Stairway DENIED! Led Zeppelin) Goin' Home (Ten Years After)? Voodoo Chile (Jimi Hendrix - Woodstock Cut- perhaps the 3 greatest guitar minutes in rock & roll starts about 45 seconds into that one)?
Yes... all these and MORE...many more... at MY choosing. Easy to change the playlist too.
I've been grinning all morning!
Considering this portable MP3 stuff for my nomination of "Greatest Entertainment Invention" of the Decade already. :)
I am truly a happy man. :D (or could you tell?)
-
Wow Congrats Tex on the engagement!!
I got a New Soltek KT-266a MB, Athlon XP 1800, Overclocked DDR RAM (512mg @ PC2400)and a Thermaltake Volcano 6Cu+ CPU Fan for upgrading my 'puter. Plus I got Red Faction and Empire Earth for games.
I upgrade my computer often, but I have been married alot of years and have never needed to upgrade a thing. I wish you same Tex in your marriage.
And San, that P vs A always scares the Sh@t out of me!! LOL
Merry Xmas to all!!

Lessee -- I flew home to see the folks. Got Mom a DVD player, dad some DVDs. My haul consisted of:
1 tube of male M&Ms (half had rancid peanuts).
2 pairs of socks from JCPenney
2 dress shirts from same.
and some sort of unholy offspring of an attempt to crossbreed a superball with a car alarm.
Edit:
oh yeah, and my dad got me a "grow it yourself" parsley plant.

have fun with return to castle wolfenstein
it is retardedly hard. but still loads of fun.
-
Haven't opened mine yet. Gotta wait for the kid to get here after 2:00 PM.
Bendover, hint on Dune Emperor, save often. :)
Second hint, if you decide to go after one side first and ignore the other do NOT take them all the way down. You will go to the end mission which is VERY hard and it ends the game. Try to whittle one side at a time but don't wipe one out before you hit the other side. You'll miss too many missions.
Last hint, the worms can be hurt. If you bring them to 50% damage they leave and don't eat your units. They will, at times, come from directly below and in that case the units are dead. Enjoy!

Ahh it went fine. The recovery period for PRK is longer and frustrating. You are used to seeing excellent corrected vision then after the surgery your vision improves with days. Some folks were seeing 20-15 in both eyes on day 2 after surgery. Not me, I was seeing 20-70 in the left adn 20-50 in the right. Day 4 I was seeing 20-30. Today is better than that, not bad. But I get halos and blurry vision still. My eyes are dry. Doc says that it will take around 3-4 months to recover fully. Flying is really hard right now. My eyes get dry after a short while and I cant see well then. No..given the fact that it was free, and i dont need glasses any more.. I say it was a good deal :)
-

Hmmm, how'd I do compared to you guys?
New Wallet (empty :( )
IL-2 Game
New Stereo VCR (Girlfriend broke the last one with an ill-fated "I think I can cure the dqueaking by tightening the belts". When she was through, there were parts leftover and the thing frazzled when she powered it on.
A nice thick Delphi 6 reference guide. Never need sleeping pills again!
A nice laptop back that's large enough to hold all my ThinkPad's UltraBay toys (Zip Drive, DVD, etc)
And, mostly clothes and some DVDs. I've now got all the Space: 1999 series :) Bad acting, lousy plots, great spaceships! Best watched with beer.
But, best of all, it was with family and we had a great day together.
-
Well so far.... a new keyboard, which I am using to type this! :) - a Logitech Internet Navigator.... and a bottle of Bailey's Irish Cream :p Also, a nice set of small, pewter tankards which have been engraved with my name and GameID - HELEN (Flossy) - and a glasses chain (started using these recently after losing my glasses numerous times - at one point I was down to prescription sunglasses!
Other gifts include chocolate, "Celebrations", a Formula 1 calendar (F1 is one of the few sports I like watching - go DC! <g> ), aromatherapy bath oils and a pot with hyacinth bulbs.... and I still have to visit my relatives over the next few days! :D
-
A new American car with 15 more HP than DRippy's little commie wife sized import.
Got lots more, but nothing else makes me more happy. Well, actually my fiancé. :p
Oh, and I fixed my new computer that just wanted to freeze all the time. Was a damn bad memory stick. Piss on Crucial for wasting 1 day of my holiday troubleshooting that nightmare but now all is good. Time to drink and kill you tards with the trusty Dora.
Cheers.

Hmmm... I got a bag of coal, a bundle of switches, and a bottle of liquor.
Thank god I got the liquor (which I'm consuming on the rocks as I type), because I also found out that my GF was cheating on me by sleeping with the guy that installed the new carpet in her apartment.
Ammo, patience Bro, I got Lasik in July and they're still working almost monthly on one of my eye's trying to get it right. But it will be worth it. :)
To quote an infamous anti-Christmas celeb:
"Screw Christmas" -- The Grinch
PS: Sorry all to be such a downer, but my last 12 months from Christmas to Christmas have been the worst periods of my life.
-
Got to spend tile with the people I love, though my wife and I put around 500 miles on our van to do it.
I got advice on houses from my father-in-law. The advice wasn't as important as his caring enough to give it.
I got some neat loot too.
-
Verm,
You can always rest in the fact that you may be actually be getting it good now.
It will get worse.

Nice lists there, seems we've all been lucky boys and girls this christmas.
I had a 1:72 die-cast Corgi model Corsair thats sits on my monitor with my other two models here (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/revvin/DCP_0106.JPG) (fooling about with my digital camera) also had two videos, one on the history of the Hurricane and one on the history of one of my favourite bits of German iron the Stuka. Also had a book on the history of the Lancaster bomber and two very nice boxes of Thorntons Continental chocs as well as assorted clothing. Had a lovely day in with just me, the missus and our two children and a monster christmas dinner :)
-
Sorry to hear that Verm but like Flossy said its a new year. A new start and you still have your health and all your friends here at Aces High.
-
Sorry All :(
I shouldn't have ruined a happy thread with my pity party whine. I'll make sure not to post intoxicated in the future.
Happy New Year All ! Its gotta get better ;)

No need to apologise, Verm.... sometimes we need a reminder that not everyone's Christmas is an enjoyable occasion. All the Best for the New Year.

not many material things here, not a religous nut and i ussualy ask people to not buy me anything.
But some persist, got money, and a VcR. Also got the pleasure of spending good time with my father doing male bonding things like shooting guns and his xbow. Got to shoot his .50cal muzle loader, what a fun weapon and packs one hell of a punch, loudest gun ive ever shot.. to qoute him "never seen a deer take more than 3 steps when at the end of this barrel".
Then i got to go to my mothers house and visit, nothing exciting there but good food and conversation.
To top it all off, the best gift so far this year was knowing i'm going to be a father in 7 months. And above that, the joy it has brought my father and mother knowing that they are going to be grandparents, there happiness was priceless.

Hey Ammo
Aren't you USAF? If so, did you go through Tri-Care or a Base Hosp? I've been wondering about corrective surgery, a guy in my shop just had it and to be honest, I didn't even know it got authorized for active duty (been kinda busy here at CENTCOM).

Got cash, clothes, beef jerky maker (food dehydrator, but does anyone use it for anything else???), Joe Horn jersey (Saints wide out), and MS FlightSim 2002 Pro. Apparently my stepbro couldn't find Il-2 in the store on Sunday and got FS2002 as the substitute. ;)
After some cheerleading from Ghosth, I got myself a home brewing kit for my bday/xmas. Already got some nut brown ale fermenting at home. :D
-
Update, but first.
Verm, It WILL get better. Take my word for it. I've had more than my share of Christmas's like yours. Spend some time doing stuff you like, have a breather and then go out and find a GOOD woman. They are out there and believe it or not may be closer than you think. They are looking for a good man too so you have half the battle won! :)
Ripley, Sorry to hear you're out of work. If you can do it, take a week or so and have an impropmtu vacation to clear your head. Then get busy with the resume and go out and ATTACK the jobs out there. Maybe check on a class to help the stats on your education section of the resume. I been out of work since Sept. so I am with ya guy. Going to school next month to get my A&P cert. as my boss hasn't enough work for himself much less me too.
My take this year. Wasn't too much due to the lack of funds :) . I got a shirt, a folding work stand, MDK 1 and 2 from my kid, the "classic" Christmas gift a tie :D . Best of all, a homemade CD of songs and words from my son (16). I have wet eyes just thinking about it. Last and most special was the time with my wife and son.
Final point here folks os this. Say a prayer for those who are in harms way and their families who went through this time with someone far away. Lastly another prayer for those who miss their loved ones who were taken away. They have more need of love and caring than any of us do.
<SALUTE>

Tumor, I bet you are busy!
actually the AF did it for free. Here at Lackland (Wilford Hall) they have a laser clinic. It is kind of a test bed for the procedure. Wrightpatterson and Lackland are the only 2 places I know of offering the procedure to all who qualify (ADAF).

I got a letter from the most beautiful women I've ever known: my girlfriend from 6 years back.
Very nice. It's taken me 6 diddlying years to almost get over her, and now I'm back in the hole again.
And, from my supposedly rich and sharing father, I got a pair of shoes. got a pair of pants from my sister, and a par of socks from my grandmother. Am not complaining though. Am pathetic when it comes to buying clothes, due to lack of funds, so it pleases me when someone gives me some :).
Spent XMAS with my parents, my sister and my brother. Didn't get a call from my oldest brother, but he's busy with his family.
Christmas isn't a very happy time, really.

Counting down till March...
