Title: Good news/bad news
Post by: qts on September 26, 2002, 04:18:37 PM
The good news is that I more than doubled my framerate according to Ctrl-I despite going from 1024x768 to 1600x1200. How come? I swapped my V5 5500 for a G4 4200. This is on a dual P3-1000.

The bad news #1 is that I don't know whether to believe the figures: AH thinks I have 256 MB of video memory; I actually have 128 MB.

The bad news #2 is that I'm off the flight deck until I have broadband connected, which should be next week. I've not been flying online for over a week. Sob, sniff.

AH reports your video memory in addition to your AGP aperature size.  This is, in fact, the total amount of video memory available to AH.

Interesting: with my V5, AH reported 64 MB, the amount of memory on the card. Maybe it's a G4 thing.

That's because 3dfx never figured out (or never tried) to implement a true AGP interface.  That means their cards ran in PCI mode.
