Id have to say its working. I was signed up as a trainerr for the past few weeks - more newbies coming in than you would believe.
I doubt, however, that many of them are even aware of the BBS.

I have had several people I know mention they have seen it. None have joined up as of yet.

They should air the comercial on MTV during the show UNDRESSED
The MTV comercial would have a lot of fast music with footage of planes ramming each others and the FDB killing chutes with rockets. And of course the comercial would be narrated by hyperactive skater dude yelling the game's qualities in a very high pitched X-TREEEEEEME voice.

I was thinking more along the lines of fast music with short clips of the game followed by long clips of incredable babes (we can volunteer YANKEE and Ronie for those parts) in suitless bathing strings lusting after the amazingly sexy virtual warrior as he vanquished his dweeby LA7 flying foe.
The new catch phrase would be "You gettin' a Dora, dude!"

Was helping a guy in the TA who downloaded the game right after the seeing the commercial. He only had a mouse to fly with, but was going to buy a joystick the next day.

A couple of weeks ago I spent two and a half hours helping a guy who'd found the game via the Discovery Wings ad.
They've had a free preview of Discovery Wings here for the last week and I saw the ad once. Oddly, it was within 30 minutes of looking for it.
We need to put our best foot forward and welcome these new users. We need to keep in mind that many of them may not even be gamers and be entering a completely new environment. That can be daunting even without people telling them confusing acronyms like "RTFM".
Lets be as helpful as we can, or keep silent if we don't wish to help at the time.

Well, I was playing WWIIOL up until I heard about this game.
I have already switched my payments from there to this game. Aces High is just way too addicting. :D
I have been trying to get my WWIIOL squad to check out the game, but no luck so far.

I found out about AH on DWINGS. I currently have an FA3 subscription which will be canceled ASAP. AH is 10 times better in my opinion. It offers much more challenging game play, and has more of an objective. Advertising on DWINGS is an excellent idea. Who watches DWINGS? It is people that enjoy aviation.
I was helped my second night by someone. I just wanted to tell you that his help made a big impression. So to those of you that are willing to help new comers, SALUTE! ! ! To those of you that are not willing to help, remember who it was that helped you when you started, then check your 6, because someday one of those newbies is going to be peppering your tail with lead.

He heee, do we really want these new ppl to discover the BBS? I say give them a break....na, guess if they can handle the open chnl within the game perhaps the BBS is tame:)

I know Dowding....but I could see how someone may not consider Grun's post as a joke. There arent any smilies in it. :D I know he was just poking fun, but it may not have been construed that way.
After reading thru several other forums, it seems that "straymullet" is a trouble-maker and is spamming every thread to tell folks he is out of here. Some folks just dont have a brain I guess.

I saw the DWings commercial and thought HEY! that looks fantastic. So I got everything up and running got into the MA, picked a field, a plane, and some ordinance and got about 10 ft down the runway before getting shot.
Hummm, ok pick another airfield out of the main scuffle. Get up fly around for a minute or two, see a black dot in front of me 30 seconds later he's behind me, then i'm under my chute. Try again from a different base, different plane, different ammo. Get about 10 seconds into my next battle and i'm under my chute. This goes on. One after another they go from infront of me to somehow directly behind me with guns blazing. Fun game.
What the commercial didn't tell you is that if you don't have 3yrs of flight sim experience don't bother thinking you're going to have much fun here. Anyone starting from scratch now this far in to retail is just volunteering to be flying fodder.

It can be frustrating when you first start...it certainly was for me.
If you still want to fly fire me an e-mail and we can hook up and I'll show you what I know. I'm still fairly new here compared to most but I can now hold my own.
It sounds like you got "vulched" on your first few attempts...when this happens it is time to turn the tables and vulch the vulchers.

Hehehe, yup, even though you'll hear that some people play this game like Quake it actualy does take skills other than what you'll learn from playing a FPS.
Check out the TA < training arena > and get one of the trainers, or other helpfull types, to give you some pointers.
Learn a bit about ACM < air combat maneuvering > and sharpen your SA skills < situational awareness > then you will have a lot more fun in AH....
....or you could just fly a La7 or N1K2...closest thing to Quake in AH IMO ;)

Mooja,..come to the training arena. There are some very good people in there that will help you.
I would not recommend any new user chose the Main Arena to start in this game. It is not a good place to learn. The Training Arena is a much better and proper place to get used to the game.

Mooja, what you say sounds awfully familiar to nearly all of us, no matter where we got our start. I really helps to make friends with someone in a squad; one that'll take the time to help a newbie. Most squads will gladly offer you an invite, just be sure their intents for the game match yours. Hang in there, and welcome to th fold

A friend at work seen that add last night . He came and looked me up . I asked him what he thought was the best part of the add , was the two jugs flying formation he said .
He's a avid RC pilot but this has got his interest up a bit , "I think" .

i remember my first day here... i was dying a lot :D
After few days i got my firs kill awarded... manouver kill... i was not sure what happened, but i think that someone was diving in 109 and just compressed :D I was sooooooooo proud... some time after that i had couple of HO kills counted :D... and then i saw the light... I saw "Victory # by FunkedUp of 308 (Polish) Sqn "City of Cracow" RAF" message and i started my conversation with him in Polish :rolleyes: (glad that i figured out how to send a private message). He explained me a little bit and invited to the Squad...
At that point my life has changed completely. I was flying almost 24/7... was attending on EVERY squad night (3am euro time) and had a lot of fun. I can't imagine that any drugs could be more addisctive then AH and my AH friends! :D
Now it's almost 3 years since i'm here and i'm still addicted... maybwe a bit differend then some time ago, but i still love this game :D
Well... what i was trying to say? hmm... i have really no idea...
... i'm getting ooooooooooold....
