Title: video settings
Post by: cp52 on September 29, 2002, 07:26:02 AM
Have a new pc and want to get the best settings I can (without overclocking or getting too techie as I am limited there:( ).  Roadrunner cable modem connection.  System: Dell Dimension 4500,Pentium 4,2.4 GHZ.  256MB DDR SDRAM AT 266MHZ.  64MB DDR Geforce4 TI4200.  Windows XP.
How should I set the Aces High video set up screen (Video7.cfg) - specifically, what does Color depth, Enable mip-mapping and Enable palletized textures do?  Also, should I do anything to my card settings on the desktop?  Thanks.

OK, I read the Setup video help and found out abut the 16/32 bit Color depth (32 bit for me) and "Checking the Enable Mip Mapping checkbox will reduce the "shimmer" effect that is seen on the terrain when flying at low altitudes.  Most people will want to have this option enabled.  The Disable Palettized Textures should be checked if you are seeing a black background behind the plane icons. "  Any suggestions for the card setting on my desktop?

cp52, this is pretty much up to you.  Every computer is a bit difrferent and every user has thier own personal requirements for graphics (i.e. speed versus quality).

Just play with the settings until you get what you like.

If you manage to really mess up, just delete the video7.cfg file and you can start all over.

Personally, I would start at 1280x1024x32 bit color and see what you think.
