This has a familiar ring to it. ;)

!!!! Crooked Politicians ?????????

Like Sandman said, who'd a thunk it?

I'm not really in favor of a one-sided race. I think the folks ought to have a choice.

However.... you knew there'd be a "however" didn't ya?

There's this:

"The laws of the state of New Jersey do not include a 'we think we're going to lose so we get to pick someone new' clause."

Have to wonder how much THAT figured into the play, even though they were late out of the gate realizing they were in deep with this guy.

So, we're back to responsibilty/accountability again. They went with him knowing he had "problems" and now they got bit in the butt on it.

Guess there's always the "write-in" option but realistically that's not a viable option, given the way a US election works.

So, while I'm sympathetic to at least a two-party race, I think I'm going to have to say "ya shoulda thought about that a little earlier...... say like before the deadline to replace him".

OK, cleared in hot with your flamethrowers.  :D

BTW, before you start lighting up, I'd say EXACTLY the same thing if this was a Republican in this situation.

Just one of the differences between me and Decem Ursus.

Yeah, Toad. In fact I doubt a large segment of the electorate is capable of even operating a voting machine, let alone actually being able to write someone's name down as a write in candidate.

BTW, I didn't waste my time on reading the link. For the most part politicians make me sick to my stomach.

I think a replacement candidate should be named. Not because I might be a registered Dem, but because the people should have a valid choice.

And I would feel this way if a Republican had pulled out also.

MT, you're talking about changing the rules after the game started.

Not a good precedent, I think. Of course, it might depend on what your definition of "is" is.  ;)
Title: another crooked dem
Post by: Wotan on October 01, 2002, 10:33:21 AM
They have a valid choice they can write in anyone they want.

They guy backed out because it was clear he was losing. Forget the corruption implications.

He quit because he was gonna lose. The law should not  be manipulated under these circumstances.

I would be more sympathetic if a candidate died suddenly, or an illness prevented him from continueing to campaign but to quit just because your going to lose is not a good precedent.

Dont lie to us about your concern for choice, if you are concerned about choice email the guy and tell him not to quit. Hes the one taking away the "choice".  Only because the polls indicate folks arent "choosing" him.

Republicans tend to keep their shades drawn, although there is seldom
any reason why they should.  Democrats ought to, but don't.

Where did I say I read your mind? I did say you are lying about your concern for choice. This is  based on your posting history. Those voters in NJ have a choice even with out a democrat on the ticket. They can write in whom ever they want and you know that.

If you dont like it, dont lie.

I can't believe anyone is defending going to court to replace the candidate after the deadline. This is wrong on so many levels.

Regarding the deadlines. Many of these election regulations are outdated and based upon a time when travel and communication were much more difficult. 5 weeks is sufficient for a run at the Senate. Why not replace the candidate? Other than because we have an arbitrary deadline.

 LAW.....

Don't like the deadline,  change it before the election.  The torch should have known this.  He should have quit 2 weeks ago, but he thought he could hide his corruption just a little bit longer.

oops....

1 more republican in the Senate :D

because you are so liberal that you would never support this if it was a republican. Not that I care this is problem for NJ.

That and the fact the voters in NJ have a choice, they can write in whom ever they want. You know this. They have all the "choice" they need.

I may not be a leftist liberal but find a post from me that shows I am a conservative.

Basically, you are just lying again. You are just making stuff up.

You are lying about your concern for "choice" and you are quick to pull out the insults. Its typical of you.

Whats idiotic is you trying to pass off your concern for choice. Those voters have a choice. More then just republican and democrat, or liberal and conservative.

While I agree wholeheartedly with folks deserving a choice, I think the question that is most relative here is, who let the people down in this particular situation?

I believe he bowed out because he hides even more which could place him in deeper water and he fears discovery of the same.

It's not about Dems or Reps, it's about character.

the NJ dumbacrats have a "choice" of anyone they want

all they have to do is write in the name, which would bring up spelling issues

Keeping in the latest spirit of the dumbacratic party, may I suggest one:

You lied in this thread thats proof enough.

I know it and you know it so you resort to this petty bs that has been typical of your personality.

Folks can search for your response in other threads, hell there is another active thread right now where you throw about "hitler" and "nazis" etc.........

You are a simple liar.

Cool, now we can call laws arbitrary and not pay attention to them if they are inconvienent to us.......hmmm..Burglary and Robbery Laws are so arbitrary.....We shouldn't follow them...

Sexual Harrassment laws aren't meant to be applied to the Chief Executive...let's not follow it....Perjury laws...heh, that's for other suckers to follow.

MT,
While I may agree with that law being arbitrary, the fact is this...

It is in place, everyone knows about it and it is not onerious (sp?).  Changing them in mid-stream because 1 party defaults after the deadline is NOT about being unfair to the voters....the Candidate and his party have done that, not the law.
