 I heard the new lethality in TA is .001%. this is ridiculous. i know that the vulching is also ridiculous, but this hurts those who are really training. One way to stop vulching and still have fun in TA is to have it where if someone vulches is to have at least 3 ppl who can type a dot command that will ban that person for a week(or however long). that way he olny can vulch once or twice. then he can be banned for a while. and he prolly wont vulch again after that. pls add more ideas if yall think of some. and pls comment and add to this one. and HT i hope u read this.

how about a .ignore command that
a) squelches the idiot
b) ignores any damage to the user from said idiot
c) idiot becomes invisible to the user, and
d) sends message to idiot telling him that the user is ignoring him. (necessary to avoid abuse from idiot#2)
heck, call it .idiot

For the purposes of training it is a good idea to have lethality reduced for most people. It gives people a chance to mix it up and try a number of different things without having to reup every 2 minutes. People can see when they are hitting and when they are being hit while they try out the planes and manuevers. When they have the basics down then they can go to the Dueling Arena or the MA to get more realistic.

I don't think a increased durability hurts people who wish to have leasons at all. You get behind the person you ping them end of story. I don't see how actually shooting the person down actually teaches someone anything that a couple friendly pings in the rear doesn't. If you want to have 1v1 fights go to the Dueling Arena.

Well, this at least explains how it was that I emptied every round from a yak's 37mm, plus all the MG into a B17 and it was still airborn...I even went to far as to come back up and hit him again...he wanted to "practice his gunnery", so I stayed directly on his six pumping lead into his left wing...I thought there was something wrong on my end. I'm glad to know that it was set this way on purpose :)

The Training Arena is primarily for New Users to get off the ground and actually fly. Unfortunately, what is the first thing any of us did once we managed to get airborne when we were new users? We vulched. So all these people attracted to try out this Sim and marvel at its flight dynamics and graphics due to the commercial on Discovery Wings that must be costing a few bucks to run are getting vulched on the runway every flight by people who don't really know any better or don't really care. Yeah, THAT'S how you attract new subscribers.
Since lethality has been turned down people are actually learning to fly and learning to dogfight. New users need flight time, not die time. One added effect is that since it's virtually impossible to get shot down there's not as much squeaking about getting vulched any more and the volunteer trainers like Ghosth and Chernaut and many others can spend more time helping new users with technical questions instead of diciplining rulebreakers.
Remember, if it's the explosion of your opponet instead of the pings registering on his 6 that trips your trigger you always have the dueling arena to fly in. It's usually pretty empty. ;)

People who are truely in TA to train should have no issue with this - The hit sprites do still shine just as bright.
If you are looking to hone your already learned skills, get into the regular arenas and earn your kills and experience like anyone else.
-
i just dropped by the TA and furballing there was absurd!! you just fly around shooting at planes that won't disintegrate and crash. the only kills you can get are proxy ones.
when i started out in AH, i usually hung out in the TA and lethality was higher then, around 0.5 i think. i got such a rush in shooting at a con, seeing it smoke, lose a wing, and come crashing down in flames. thats when i got bitten hard by the AH bug.
it could be possible that those newbie players coming into the TA would lose interest in this great game because there is no more satisfaction in seeing your opponent crash in front of your eyes.
i upped an me110 with twin tater guns, got good hits on a spit and still it wont die. 0.001 lethality is way too low, it is my opinion that they should up the lethality, even for just a bit.
just letting it come off my chest.....
now i feel better

TA=Training Arena= place to train people who want it.
MA= Main Arena= place to furball to your hearts content.
DA= Dueling Arena= place to duel anyone you want to.
Is there still a confusion as to why you should NOT be in the TA furballing and then get upset when it isn't setup like the MA?

AKSwule, perhaps you don't realize this:
There is NO place in the MA that is like the TA furball. NOWHERE. The big furballs you see in the MA are nothing like the instant-action fights that populated the TA.
Name me ONE place in any of the AH MA where you can always take off and be fighting inside 20 seconds. This can only happen if you take off from a CAPPED field, in which case you are unlikely to make it off the runway. In the TA usually they wouldn't vulch and you could report people who did.
Whether HTC wants AH to have that sort of instant-action gameplay is one issue (apparently they don't want it which is fine, their choice). But telling the TA people that they can just go elsewhere for the same thing is, quite simply, wrong.
MA fliers who don't go to the TA much might not realize that.

I'll probably get flamed for this but.....
AW had a Newbee arena. New players were welcome to come play there, and there were trainers or vets around to help. The trick was that veteran players were not allowed any ammo on their planes. It made for a fun intro to the game, and helped the baby seals build confidence before playing with the big boys.

Okay, substitute MA, with DA.
What I realise is that the TA is being misused, and there's an arena set up specifically for furballing... and the only people who can be called TA people are those who do the training or need it. Not for people who want the insta-action quakeballs.
How people get Furballing Arena out of Training Arena is beyond me.

What Wulfie said.
Why are you furballing in the TA???
The decrease in lethality is a great change. It is really bothersome having to re-up after a single "engagement" and get to alt and setup again as I've worked with folks especially if we're working a particular thing and want the repitition of trying something over and over until you get it right.
I liked the way it was implemented waaaaay back in AW DOS days where in the TA you would explode but would remain airborne and regenerated after your "death".

you think some of the furballing and bs that goes on in the TA is bad
come to one of the "badly" hosted arenas by newbies. 1 feild...huge furball abopve the feild. as soon as you up your in the fight. very annoying. but thats only the bad ones.
oh and noone likes a post that starts with
*name* please read this

The DA would likely see use by the "instant-action furball" crowd if the terrain wasn't so poorly designed. If you fly for different countries in the DA the airfields are just as far apart as MA airfields.
Is killshooter on in the DA?

All of the fields in the low-alt, mid-alt and high-alt fighting areas are MUCH closer together than any field in the MA terrains.
I've flown them before, contact within 1 minute of leaving the ground.
Is that too much time between fields for the attention deficit insta-action quakeball people?

Killshooter is most definitely not on in the DA.

Making fun of them SW isn't the answer. Not everybody has the same tastes in online gaming, and nobody's preference is more valid than anybody else's.
Since KS is apparently not on in the DA, perhaps it just needs to be publicized better (arena design is irrevelant when you can fight people uppingfrom the same field). It'd also help if the default field when you log into the DA wasn't a high one.

why people pay just to use the Deuling arena is beyond me. you can do that for FREE in the hth and have the settings as whatever you want
-
because they want the extra and the like that they get in the ta.
Dont they get triple ammo?
The training arena has been a mess for some time. My squad actually "trains" (more like practices) in the DA.
There was a guy actually forminmg a training arena squad.
I never flt in there anyway so increased lethality or what ever, it makes no difference to me. But I always found it odd to log on to see 50 - 60 guys in the ta.

I don't see how you can advertise it any better than having them listed:
Main Arena
Dueling Arena
Training Arena
When you see Training, what do you think?
I think "a place for people to go and get assistance".
It's anything but because of these quakeballers.
Not everyone has the same tastes, but jebus... changing a place that's supposed to be a safehouse for newbies to learn and get help into a 24/7 furball isn't exactly having a taste for gaming... it's destroying an arena specifically setup for something entirely different than what it's being used for because they either a) can't read, or b) are attention deficit.
Take your pick a or b, I stay out of the training arena because I don't need training, unless I am going to go help someone there.
Then people turn and try to justify the use of the TRAINING arena as a furballing arena by stating that the other arenas (while obviously one was never even bothered with, the DA) don't support their needs.....
Bah, attention deficit is indeed an appropriate title for these people.

Wotan made a good point, the TA also had the increased ammo and things like the LCOS sights on. None of this is available in the DA.

and now they have .001% lethality.
Beggers can't be choosers.

vorticon 8 v 8 just aint as fun as a 25 - 30 folk furball.
Why would anyone pay for ah at all in H2H was so fun?
