If, and that's a big if, the Axis loose this next frame, I think they'll have an excuse.  The orders didn't make sense, Rips fever caused some hallucinations.  When he wrote attack the little green men, the Axis squad COs flew all over the map trying to find the LGMs, but alas none were found :)
