Woo - keeps looking better & better!
Now check out the dmg model --> engine has 20 hit locations
I think planes in AH don't have 20 hit locations overall... :)

Yeah.. Il2 is pretty much the king of PC flight simulation right now..
Best FM,DAMAGE,GRAPHICS... bar none.....
-
Yeah, but I dont need a Cray to run AH.
And I can fly online with up to 550 other people.

is IL2 going to fix it so you HEAR ALL the shots when they hit your plane?
so that the russian crates aren't superman planes?
so that you actually hit and damage a plane enough to down it before you run out of ammo?
include a damage list so you don't have to guess what is shot up?
good game but it ain't perfect

If you want to chat with 550 guys, AH Channel 1 is pretty sweet Sling. Your not fighting 550 guys though, be fair.
That 500+ number that's tossed around is misleading.
IL-2 32 player online format delivers fights, with huge graphics updates AH dreams of, but you'll miss the huge player base.
People will take the trade-off and play accordingly. A little a both I assume.

Il2 is very cool but I dont like the FM especially the way rudder is done, way too twitchy. Second there is no way I will ever go back to individually hosted air combat sims. I need the huge scale of AH. Now everyone knows there is never a really huge battle in everyday AH but I love the freedom of movement and manouver a nearly limitless world provides - I can even choose to run away and RTB at will and nobody will be dissapointed as will happend in an individual host type game if you decide to break off. To find other targets more people will have to logg on and so on.
So unless IL2 develops a better dedicated arena AH like multiplay capability, for me it will just be a fun distraction and example of superb computer ability available today.

Eagler-
I don't quite see it that way, I suppose. Though I only play it offline, I don't necessarily feel the Soviet planes are superman planes, but they do rule down low- just like they should.
One of the knocks of AH is that the guns are too strong- and this is arguably true. If Il-2 takes a different approach and makes it harder to nibble enemies apart, that isn't necessarily bad. This is especially true if this is across the board, not just on selective aircraft. All it adds up to is longer and more challenging fights.

online il2 has been going down hill for me. I am tired with the top gun types droppin flaps and gear at any speed to "watch umm fly right by".
The struggle to find a good coop or decent server is a bit tiring. IL2 looks great and is a good box game (I had more for with eaw though).
I also hate the guys who design missions then dont follow their way points. They rush to a spot to come in behind the rest and kill most. The Grey "dots" dont show up against the terrain very well. Your eyes are drawn to movement and the grey "dots" are too hard to see and track.

Kieran fighting ai offline wont give you a true insight into the abilities of any of the planes. The VVS are tough online. Fly a 109 then a yak online and you will see.
