As Many of you know, Midway Scenario is Starting the First Saturday in November.
What a perfect opertunity to put your Art Skills to work making new Skins for the Planes for Midway.
If we can get a set of skins in the next couple weeks, There is a strong possibility that they would be used.
Im Wondering is there anyone or a couple guys that would like to take on the task????
(since the TBM is both sides, it would have to be a generic)
-
Grimm, what is the color scheme for allied? I'm working on a 3-color Hellcat right now, circa 1943.
Got any links to good websites for reference?
-
The Best I can do is The Midway SAC Files from the Scenario AirCraft Changer from AW.
This will have Bmp Skins of the midway set.
It might give some ideas.
Ill try to attach the Zip File, If it doesnt work, I can Email it you
(Didnt Work)
Ill attack the Wildcat, No Hellcats at Midway
-
No Hellcats at Midway... Hollywood LIED!!!
Lol... I'd be happy to work on it.
So which planes exactly are we looking at?
-
hi Grimm,
u can count on me
correct me if m wrong
As i saw Zeke have only different colour strips/numbers on tail panitng depends from carrier.
We cannot use couple skins same time, so current is correct imho
Val same story
As i think we cant use diferent skins on TBM for US and JPN forces
And only TBM need reskinig for US
all used planes wes painted right to Midway Scenario.
Custom skin can be add only if each side download map witd 2 different skins array

Just something that occured to me. Might be a good idea to standardise the colour palet if your going to have lots of people working on aircraft for the same map.
Looking at my Trop G2 and Kweassa's Trop F4 the variation is quite large. Either looks good on it's own but if your going to have a bunch of reskinned aircraft flying round in the same area it would look good to have them all painted the same colours.
Just a thought.

Heh, a lot of mystique about aluminum. Apparently, the author didn't recognize the reflective properties and off color print problems.
-
Nice looking PBY/C47 I got it in your Mail. I forwarded that mail to Jordi to see.
Between all you Skin Guru guys, We will have some cool planes for Midway :)
Thanks to all that have stuff done, or in the works.

And decide to use only standart scheme for USNY.

This plane flown by LT Kobayashi Michio, Commander of Hiryu's Bombing Squadron on June 4, 1942. Kobayashi, flying BII-201, along with his gunner, WO Ono Yoshinori, led the first counter attack by Hiryu against Yorktown on the afternoon of June 4. This strike composed of 18 D3A1s, divided into two nine plane Chutai (the rough equivalent of US divisions) and six A6M2 Zeros.
Only one bug /or mby not bug/, elevators top/bottom cannot by paint separatly, so i live all green.
Big for man/woman who make skins for last update, looks much better then early HTC skins

As best as I could considering the original mapping. You'd be surprised how much wasted "whitespace" is on this skin.

Umm he said the TBM is for both teams. maybe you should remove the logo, since he asked the tbm to be generic.
-
Ummm maybe I will wait and see if they actually use the skins first, then I can easily remove the roundels if they ask me to.
Ramzey, have you started the B-17 yet? If not, would you like me to? I was going to do the Wildcat next, but after looking at it closer, I realized it is already in Midway-era scheme... so one less skin to work on.
-
Dux,
i chk b17 skinning possibilyty and finde colour schema
but HTC make couple errors skining b17, all markings have alpha channel which one cannot be removed from skinning leve.
And som white holes on elevator and wing ruine green camuflage .
http://www.hitechcreations.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=66942
So i think this b17 model cannot be repainted to 1942 army schema.:(
So its end of list skins, Zeke can be repainted but i dont see reason to do that. Now schema are correct, and we can change only carrier markings on the plane
Jordi, Grimm any other requests?
ramzey

Hey Ramzey, I found a trick for those Alpha-channel markings...
One of the "blue" planes that I exported from the Terrain Editor (don't remember which now) had 2 extra files, in addition to the normal skins; these 2 files were called MARKING.bmp and MARKING_a.bmp. The first file is a skin of a couple styles of blue & white stars, a Russian star, and a Canadian oak leaf. The second file is the alpha for the first, which clips the silhouette of the markings.
Check your Savedtex folder to see if you have these files already. If not, export a bunch of Blue planes and they will show up.
All you have to do is open the Alpha file, and black out the hole for the unwanted marking. When you compile the shape, the old marking becomes invisible. That's how I did the SBD and TBM.
Only drawback is... any planes that are used in this terrain AND use that markings file will have to have their markings painted directly onto the skins. Not a big problem though.
As for the mystery panels on the B-17...? I think having a 95% green B-17 is still better than not having one. I'm planning to work on this plane regardless of Midway, so if I find any solutions, I'll pass them on.
-
hi
Dux i have suspicion about markings, and now realise how that works:)
But if u do that we must rework all skins whichone use this files;)
by the true for me 95% its still not enough, HTC make to error in 3D model, i see no reason now to change that for 8 planes on scenario, mby somday HTC give us better b17 v? model.
Lets try to stand on historical markings far as we can.
Or TE hedquater have other opinion?

Any more coming???
-
hmmm what more?
goon , Val, SDB
Zeke, F4F, B26 allready painted good
B17 cannot be repainted, bug in UV mapping
what else?, show what to do , we do that

Dux,
Are you going to release the skin files?
Please!
Viper
-
Sky viper, I only have those two skins so far (Midway SBD and TBM... well, three if you count the reworked CV deck) but I'd be happy to share them. Let me just double-check with the CMs to make sure there are no conflict-of-interest issues.
