Look for my reply to numerous question in the OT forum ~60 minutes after the posting time for this message.

And you think that Skuzzy won't lock the thread there?
-
I think HTC has had enough of the issue. I may or may not agree with their stance on the matter (I am not sure of their stance on the issue, Skuzzy was sort of vague), but I will respect their wishes for this issue to die for now. Let's let it rest.

Argh sorry again guys (incl. Skuzzy) - I left the browser open when I fell asleep. As such I didn't refresh the UBB and see that the origional thread was locked.
I don't know if they'd (HTC) would be opposed to my thread. I'm not arguing for one side or the other. I just found a bunch of good material in the one book I could get ahold of immediately which is 'Das Reich' by Max Hastings (no loss there, I have this book in my personal library at home and it's one of the best ever written on several interesting topics - the Waffen-SS, the battle for Normandy, attrocities commited during the battle for Normandy, the SOE, the early missions of the SAS, partisan actions, etc.). It goes into the attrocities commited in France in great detail (which I was hoping to get Straffo's opinion on, as he is a 'local' - was curious to see how the opinions of the Frenchmen quoted in the book compared to what he's heard in person), as well as the largely conscripted ranks of the 2. SS Pz. in 1944 (9,000 of 12,000 were from 12 non-German Nationalities) - I was going to post alot of quotes from the book.
Skuzzy - if you read this and don't want me to post just let me know.
OT post on hold until Skuzzy 'rings me' one way or the other.

It is one thing to have civil discussions and share information, but when personal attacks commence and the topic is skewed away from the original intent, and/or it has just degenerated into a flame fest, I will step in and either say something, lock the thread, or move the thread.
My overall tendency is to allow the community to handle things. I will let threads run figuring someone will finally get tired of it and stop feeding it, especially when it degenerated into nothing helpful and only hurtful.
Here is the key phrase, "modicum of respect". Make it happen and all is good. Respect that we at HTC would like to see a board full of useful information, healthy discussions, people making jokes, telling stories, and just a general healthy attitude.
Here is another tip. If you cannot post something without making a personal attack, maybe you should think twice about it.
If you do not like the content of the thread, then either move out of it, or join in a manner that indicates willingfulness to discuss the opinons.
It is never about us getting tired of what is written on the boards. It is the utter lack of respect we do get, from time to time. If you have a complaint about something, why not send us an email first? Give us a chance to do something about the situation? Posting about your complaint on the bulletin board first is just a slap in the face to us. One we do not deserve and will no longer tolerate.
I got a phone call from someone yesterday complaining about an individual in the arena. I logged in and promptly took care of the problem. End of story, no 300 post thread about what HTC believes or disbelieves.
It has been my experience that if you give no respect, you usually get none in return.

"""If you cannot post something without making a personal attack, maybe you should think twice about it. """"
how true , sometimes after typing out a reply i re-read it and decide it would be best for everyone if i did NOT post it , , so i just deleat the whole thing and move on.

part of my familiy lived near limoges in a little village.
Explain me how can I handle a discution about such a topic without over reacting ?
btw where is your thread ?
-
I cannot tell you how to deal with it straffo. I can show you how I deal with the family members I needlessly lost in camps in Germany. Look for any postings I have made about the subject.
-
:(
I think you will understand my position : I won't be anytime involved in such a discution.
I'm in AH to a fun and friendship not to dig horror from a past not so far away.
To be more precise I hate with passion all Nazi or anything associated to Nazism but I don't confuse todays German with Nazi
I've no hate for the german.
-
I certainly do understand it straffo, and if you looked, you will see I have not talked about my own family losses on these boards, other than to mention it.
