Last night myself and a couple of squaddies decide to do a general-purpose jabo run in heavy Mustangs. We launch, climb to 15k, cruise to target, then make our high-speed run-in. They put their ordinance on the town and various targets and I try to put mine on a shore battery (miss with both bombs and most missiles) and swing around to strafe the town.
By now I've got a P-38 chasing me, with miscellaneous Bishops upping from the field and circling around. I've lost vis of my squaddies and assume that they're dead. I sweep over the town and level the church with my guns while the P-38 takes some long-range sniper shots at me. He pings me but the Mustang is still controllable so I sweep over the airfield, picking off a Spitfire on the runway. Up ahead I spot a Hurri C on climb-out, about d3.0 away and above me. I'm in the guy's blind spot and closing quickly, but I figure that the P-38 will toggle the "Check 6" key and warn him that I'm coming. Nope. He doesn't even wiggle. I squeeze for all guns and the Hurri's tail pops off.
The Hurri had been at about 5k alt so he's got a ways to drop. I can only imagine what he was typing in his radio buffer. Its not like the P-38 didn't see what was going to happen, and its not like there weren't enough other Bishops airborne to see it coming, either. Or maybe I'm just that good. :p
That P-38 did end up shooting me down when I reversed back to take another swipe at the field. He cut off my angle and got some cannon in my wings. But at least I got a building and 2 kills, so I was still "in the black" on that flight.

I give check 6's all the time. I find that 90% of the time the person who I gave a check 6, just flies straight and level and gets blown away just the same.
-
Very pleased with the check 6's I get. Have had my virtual life saved one more than one occassion.
-
I frequently tell people not to give me chk6's when they do. The check 6 feature is useless and highly annoying. I deleted the sound so it's at least bearable, bit it still spams my test buffer.
I will never give check-6's either; I don't even have the key for it mapped. Sometimes I will tell a person to evade but half the time they don't seem to be reading the text buffer :) People who fly with me find that I'm capable of being a good "team player", but I don't try to babysit people.
The last time I got killed from an enemy I didn't see was in August. Before that, the last time was in January. The check-6 feature truly is worthless.

For you maybe. I find it invaluable when winging with someone, especially since I can't communciate via vox.

I believe I was the lone P38. I try to give as many as I can, but when 2 other guys are bearing down on ya it's kind of hard :).

I have check 6 mapped to a key on the throttle. I generally use vox, though.

Yes, thank you for all the chck6 I got!
-
I'm always thankful for check6's regardless of whether I saw 'em, it tells me the guys around me are up to speed on things and I'm more likely to work w/em setting drags & baits etc.
The usefulness of chk6's prolly depends on your flying style. The guys that fly around and cherry folks for their kills will most likely never need it. Guys who like to mix it up more can use it more, because no matter how good ur SA gets, enough bandits swirling around eventually leads to missed assignments.

If they were in Mustangs, they may have been the squaddies I didn't see. :)

Heh heh Hornet, the cherry-pickers typically have worse SA than the guys down in the furball. FIghting in furballs a lot forces you to learn decent SA.

Can you tell me who you were in AW--I fought and knew most of the Shills there- but I'm not sure who you are and it's driving me nuts. :p
-SN- -KG- -00- -66- and I used to have some great fights and I winged -FX- a lot...

Well you are missing at least half the fun.

I can listen to Vox, just not transmit due to problems with my soundcard.

I was in the ^Skull^ squadron in RR and then FR. I didn't fly Shill until I came to AH. My AW CPID was Cakes and in big furballs my P-51 usually got picked-off by Spitfires early on. ;)
