Been meaning to post this for awhile...
Here's how it works:
In cockpit view, while panning view with coolie hat (usually front to left side, don't know if pan direction matters), bring up or put away clipboard.
Will cause stutters accompanied by sounds static or a complete hard lockup. Have to reboot, lost quite a few perks this way.
Running 98SE, Voodoo 3 card, AMD 800 athlon, MS Sidewinder stick.
Tell me if you need more information, I can reproduce the stutters/lockups at will.

Just to clarify what I'm doing, I'm using snap views without the 'snap'. So when I look left, it pans quickly to the left view, pans quickly back to front when I release the hat.

Well duh..
With Voodoo3 I'm surprised your whole computer doesn't stutter from the thought and suicide. :P
Did you try this 'sure' way on any other display adapter? Because I'm quite sure your probs are caused by your non-supported, dead and buryed display card.

Ely,..I was online when you said you were leaving to post a reproducible bug.
Spent the last hour trying to reproduce it on an ATI and NVidia card and cannot.
May I suggest something? Make sure your in-game video settings match your Windows desktop as far as resolution and color depth.

I never stated that this was across the board, just guaranteed for me. Don't really appreciate your condescending post either, not everyone has money for the latest and greatest cards.
Skuzzy, will try your suggestion, thanks.

I set both in game and windows display settings to 1024x768 and 16-bit high color.
I can still reproduce this lockup, seems to be plane specific though, spit 14s and me262s will lockup on me after 5-15 tries of what I described above. 190a5, my usual ride, it never happens.
I can't alt-tab out of AH and back in either if that gives any clue. If I alt-tab to desktop, AH sits in the tray as it should. If I try to alt-tab back into it AH crashes, but remains running in the background. It leaves the system tray but a session still runs when I cntrl-alt-delete.
Anyways, I'm guessing this problem is something specific to my system, probably the old card. I'll live with it, thanks for trying :).

Try using the F9 'Instant' view and see if you can get it to lock up. 99% sure that it's your Voodoo3 causing the lock ups. Saw the same problem at times in AW when people would cycle through their views quickly and get dumped to desktop.
Ack-Ack

Voodoo cards have some anomolies with DirectX. You can try this:
Re-install DirectX, once done re-install your Voodoo card drivers AFTER you have installed DirectX. That way the DirectX vid driver is the one that Voodoo supplied matching the card, and not replaced by defaults in DirectX. Usually this fault could show up as lower fps than expected, and was fairly common in AW. Re-installing the Voodoo drivers after the DirectX install usually resolved it. Dunno if your prob will be cured but worth a try.
It is important to use the same screen and flying resolution as Skuzzy suggested, but also try setting the flying resolution down as a test, and see if the same bug occurs.
