Title: losing udp going to tcp
Post by: Baine on October 16, 2002, 09:25:38 PM
I don't know what this message means technically, but I do know that gameplay-wise it means I might as well log off.
It's been happening to me a lot over the last couple of days, and as soon as it does, I experience major warps that make the game all but unplayable.
At first I thought it was my ISp, but everything else seems normal here. Anything going on with HTC that could cause this?
thanks

Quick rundown on technical details:

UDP is a fire-and-forget protocol of sending data.  There are no guarantees that a packet will reach its destination.

TCP is a send-and-wait-for-ack protocol.  You send a packet out, the server replies to tell you that it has received it.

In Aces High, if the server does not detect any UDP traffic for a period of 8 seconds consecutively, it switches protocols to TCP.

The problem is packet loss between your computer and the AH servers.  Download Ping Plotter (http://www.pingplotter.com) and run it to trace the route between you and AH.  You'll see where the problem lies.

Not always jonnyb.  I'm being switched to TCPIP immediately when logging in.  I have run a Ping Plotter graph and there are no connection problems.  Didn't change a thing on my computer and haven't added a firewall.  Just one day, no more UDP.  Been stuck with no UDP and no vox ever since.
