Over in Live for Speed land....
Just started playin it today.. sooo... how are your laptimes in the GTI? (only car I've tried)
I'm at real hi 1:36's after mebbe 50 laps...
Have NOOO clue how the fast guys are running 1:31's or better...

My personal best in the GTI is mid 1:34 something. I haven't tried anything other than the default setups though. I'm pretty sure I can get mid 1:33 if I practice and get more consistent, but I think 1:32 and below is going to require setup changes. But consistent 1:35's will win most online races, if you can avoid contact. That game is a lot of fun, and it's not even close to being finished. :)

I can run 1.33s pretty consistently with my own setup. I did a 1.32.88 once, but never seen another 1.32 since. I've seen replays of 1.31 laps, and they just hold a few more mph through some of the turns. I can take every turn just as fast as them, just not all on the same lap :)
The stock setup is pretty decent actually, and not far off what my custom setup. The biggest difference I notice was reducing caster down to about 2 degrees or so. Doesnt make much sense, but the front seemed to stick much better after that.
It takes a while to get used to it, but I like the turbo much better. In my experience, GTi races are usually decided on the 1st lap, after that I wach the guy ahead of me slowly run away because he can run a quarter sec faster than me, and I do the same to the guy behind me. With decent drivers in turbos, you have guys making more little mistakes, getting a bit sideways here and there, that you can pounce on.
Going back to the GTi you realize just how painfully slow it is. I start falling asleep on the back straight.
Modding is pretty fun too. I've got a 832lb, 40000hp GTi that will run a 33 second lap :D. I also tried to make a Viper. Took the turbo and made it 3600lb with a 420hp 8.0L naturally aspirated V4. Since theres no way to make the tires wider, it prolly came out closer to a 60s vette. It's never fully under control except for a few seconds on the back straight.

Hey Moloch, you know you can do that, right? Take off from a CV w/ fully loaded (2x 1K bombs and full fuel), that is.
It is challenging, but it can be done. Practice offline, try taxiing to the very very back of the CV, then throttle up full and hit WEP and release brakes. As you pass the middle of the superstructure for the CV on your right, hit your flap key as many times as you can to initiate full flaps, then pull up your gear and hold the stick back as you leave the end of the deck. You'll almost stall out, and you'll come close to the water, but you'll gain enough speed to climb away and on to a normal mission.
If you REALLY need full fuel and bombs, it can be done.

that's way too much work.. just use wep and two notches of flap... much faster to get up... and it works

Still struggling to get a satisfactory controller/steering setup.
Car seems too nervous.

1:35's with that default setup is quite a feat! I can't seem to break 1:36's with it.
Its too springy, and geared too tall for my liking.
I've attached my setup, I use a logi force GP with it, separate axis, 60% forces, no deadbands.

Kind of a wierd setup there Skurj. You're lifting the inside front tire in turns with that much front anti-roll. Typically you run a bigger bar on the rear of an fwd car. But hey, whatever works for you!
Adding some rear toe in usually fixes nervousness for me.

FWIW Scawen has made it public that the current suspension and tire models include some major simplifications which mean that setup changes will often have results that aren't even close to what you would expect in real life.

Naaa, no need for P6 10GHz to do better than what Scawen did. The tire and suspension models are half-assed, and he knows it and admits it. His reasons for doing it that way are quite valid too. He'll fix it up in the future.

Moloch, I tried it w/ 2 notches of flaps and WEP, and a FULLY loaded, as in F4u=1D 2x1000lb bomb and 100% fuel, and could not take off from CV.

Funked.. i was referring to the physics in general sorry. There have always been weird setups that work in every race sim I've ever played. Perhaps that not unrealistic I dunno. But there will always be an area exploitable until they get physics perfect.
Well I reduced my nervous car problem quite abit....
In the game I try to run the reduce steering near center setting (whatever terminology they used) which is actually steering linearity. In a perfect world I would run it at 0% but I found controls much too sensitive.. and.. my damn wheel is not very precise around the center point.
I have a logi force GP. I pulled it a part and gave the pot a shot of contact cleaner. Its much better now, not perfect though. One thing I noticed though... the damn pot is NOT mounted solidly... it shifts slightly especially when going from left to right. Crap design that I don't think i can do anything about +(
When I turned up the linearity I had to run it at 70% to get rid of the slop, and this just wasn't working for me as it required too much controller deflection to get what I wanted from the car.
I then reduced the range in axis properties in the Logi profiler, which worked pretty good, but until i cleaned things up she still was nervous.
Now I am at a compromise, 40% linearity, and 100% range, and running low 1:33's so I'm satisfied for now with the controller.
Mebbe tonight I will look for an online host.
And u basturds talking AH take it to the appropriate forum would ya!!
