Title: HT - Mission indicator
Post by: Tjay on October 20, 2002, 12:34:04 PM
Something that could be considered for an upcoming version is a visual indicator somewhere on screen (perhaps on the clipboard) to show that one or more missions are currently open to join.

That might stop the Mission Gestapo clogging up what is supposed to be the country tactical and strategic comms channel with their endlessly repeated screams to JOIN MISSION, JOIN MISSION. MORE PILITS NEEDED. etc, etc ad infinitum.

Apologies in advance to Rooks and Knights if this is purely a Bish thing; we seem to have had a lot of spoiled brats join recently.

Tjay, there already is an indication on the clipboard!  Try clicking on the Mission button in the bottom right corner of the clipboard while in flight and it will show the usual mission screen with details of any current missions.... Of course, even with details accessible on the clipboard, it won't stop the mission being 'advertised' on channel 2!  :D  I often look there anyway to see what the arena time is if I'm in something with no cockpit clock.... :)

How about mission advertise channel, which can be squelched? For example, channel 6 is mission advertise, if you are not interested, you can just turn it off.

Anyone not interested in joining the mission should be automaticly booted from the game, or forced to fly nothing but c47's.

...or the game could switch them over to Rooks. That is... unless they've already used their one switch per month alotment, in which case they'll be booted to the H2H arenas. :D

Thankyou for your replies lady and gentlemen.

Flossy makes a good point - there is already a Mission Indicator. Now we just have to shut up those perpetual, boring posters.

Innominate's post may be offered tongue in cheek but that is actually the attitude of some Mission Maniacs. I have yet to see an 'open' mission that achieved anything very much. The usual result is a massive overkill operation which SOMETIMES  results in a field capture after about an hour of complete chaos during which the other sides capture about 3 or 4 fields left undefended.

I specifically exclude Hangtime's missions from that, but even he is sometimes overwhelmed by the undisciplined hordes who like to go along on these things.

Missions are great when they are planned by someone skilled and carried out by just enough people needed to get the job done. Sadly there are few of those.

I guess I will just have to squelch anyone who posts MISSION, MISSION! more than twice in any one minute. Tedious, but there appears no option.
