I thought I heard Skuzzy say in the MA that he had done it on Friday....
-
I believe Skuzzy was referring to a sheep caught in a fence.

Can you do those checkrides in the rain? Cause it was pissing down here almost all day on Friday and it was raining off and on just about all weekend.
-
Sling the rain doesn't neccesarily effect anything ,the visibility and cloud cover would indeed make someone postpone a VFR Pilot ride check. When I took mine it was raining but clouds were high enough and visibility was about 5 SM so I was legal. Took it passed it flew 5 times after that and Haven't flown since :-D

Wow...I took mine in 1992...I have to do my BFR (Biennial Flight Review) this month, then do the required night landings, etc to be all up to date again. No pun, but wow...time flies...
Glasses...shame on you! Get back up there!

Has been postponed do to weather twice. Have the oral all complete , maby this thursday. Btw was 3 weeks from solo to first check ride time. And also picked up my plane this week end from nevada, was a fun trip. 185 Knots 8.3 gph at 9500 ft.

Is that optimal speed for efficiency HT? And how much does the fuel cost?
22 MPG... a little better than I would have expected.

Actually a little better than that DJ unless you meant Nautical MPG. Works out to about 25.6 Standard MPG. But who cares about cost when yer soaring above the grunts. ;)

I'm very jealous :) At least you got the oral part down, supposedly that can be very challenging

HiTech...
What are you doing for insurance? Low time + Experiemental...just wondering what you wound up going with, etc.
The only firms I could find that would insure the BD-5 I had was, well....Fargo...the same folks that insure the Space Shuttle, etc etc. Not cheap!
Avemco is awful, many folks cant fly since the insurance went up big time after 9/11.

Van's is the most common kit plane.
They have a program set up with Nation Air.
Also on the financing side, rv was one of only a few home builts lots of banks would finance. Insurance was 2.7% of insured price nose wheel would have been a little less. They did require a check ride with a CFI with 200 hours RV time.
-
Seems reasonable enough (though I'm wondering what the end number turned out being :) )
Van's makes some great kits. Friend's RV-9A is nearly done!

At last, as of 2:00 PM central time I became a private pilot.

wtg hitech!
are you doing your instrument rating next?
it's the only practical way for personal air travel if you like to use your plane for trips often.

HT or anyone else,
what materials do you recommend to get prior to actually signing up for flight instruction. Monetarily I dont have what it takes due to an unexpected home repair, but will this spring and would like to get a jump on the instruction.
-
HiTech....
Your mailbox will never be the same
Constant AOPA mailings, Sportings Pilot Shop catalogs....you name it.
So go on over to http://www.flightsuits.com and treat yourself....get a nice flight suit, matching helmet, etc and make em think you are taking off into MiG Alley the next time you are at the airport :)
Congrats! You'll find you learn more in the 20 hours AFTER you obtained the Private Pilot License than all the training before! Enjoy and welcome to the club!
