I like the gun.

much more impressive than the catapult we had in highschool.  (mounted in the back of a pick-up, would fling 5# bags of flour about 130 yds)

or the sabot(sp?) I made for the kid down the blocks spud-gun.  it allowed you to use the gun to fire eggs.  with about 30deg. elevation they would go completely out of site.

That looks sweet.

You guys ever use one of those potato cannons?  
Those things are a hoot.  Last 4th of July we were using one like a mortar and dropping potatoes near some canoers on the lake.  All they saw were these big splashes falling around them.  I think they thought it was some kind of huge fish or meteor shower.

why back in my day ..........

Before soda cans were all aluminum, they were the perfect size and configuration to make a tennis ball cannon, especially the ones with a pull tab.

We would cut the top and bottom out of about 6 cans. These were taped together with copious amounts of black tape to form a long barrel. One more can was taped to the bottom. The pull tab end up toward the barrel and the bottom .. well.. at the bottom. We then poked a small hole (just big enough for the tip of a lighter fluid can nozzle) into the bottom.

Now you shove a tennis ball down the throat of the contraption, its a tight fit, and squirt a little lighter fluid into the hole at the bottom. Give it a shake to vaporize it, then hold the bottom over a candle.

We had tennis balls going 2 blocks in the air.

hehe...target, that reminds me of the time i saw a 4x4 inflate a tire with lighter fluid and a match...that was some coool chit.
