Title: Texas!
Post by: rogwar on October 22, 2002, 01:15:20 PM
Texas is a very nice state to make your home. The people here are quite friendly and the cost of living in some areas is very reasonable. The beef here is tasty. The crime rate is generally low. I believe Texas is the largest energy producing state.

There are some great companies in the Dallas area like Nortel and Alcatel but they have been hit hard by the telecom industry bust. Bell is in the area as well. Lockheed Martin always has some interesting activity going on in Fort Worth.

Anyway, my thoughts on Texas. Hope you have a nice day and enjoy wherever you live!

many of the facts you quoted arent true, but you're too lame to know it because you're from tx...although i should admit that i did once get a nice pair of shoes in Amarillo - but they were made in China

Why no Texas beef?

=

That's why El Paso is at the bottom.

I don't suppose it's worth mentioning that most of the companies listed under "communications" are headquartered oustside of Texas, mostly in California. Also, aren't Alcatel and Nortel European companies?

Alcatel is French.  Nortel is Canadian, based here in Ottawa.  Bell Northern Research, the R/D devision of Bell Canada was deprivatised and became Northern Telecom, which was renamed Nortel Networks.

Isn't Texas full of Texans?

There's a problem right there... :)
Title: A California Native, living in New York, coments on Texas...

"I have said that Texas is a state of mind, but I think it is more than that. It is a mystique closely approximating a religion. And this is true to the extent that people either passionately love Texas or passionately hate it and, as in other religions, few people dare to inspect itfor fear of losing their bearings in mystery and paradox. Any observations of mine can be quickly cancelled by opinion or counter-observation. But I think there will be little quarrel with my feeling that Texas is one thing. For all its enormous range of space, climate and physical appearance, and for all the internal squabbles, contentions, and strivings, Texas has a tight cohesiveness perhaps stronger than any other section of America. Rich, poor, Panhandle, Gulf, city, country, Texas is the obsession, the proper study and the passionate possession of all Texans."

If Texas sucks so much, why are you playing a game made in TEXAS that's made by TEXANS?

One of these days people will realize that Texas is more like (especially Dallas) L.A. than one big cowboy ranch.  If you've never been to Austin, you're seriously missing out on the beautiful scenery (women) here.:p

Saying it's like L.A. isn't exactly what I would call an endorsement. :)

anybody catch Gallager when he did his bit on texas (must have been 10 yrs ago).  he had some funny bits.

about taxas being their own country-

Texas could secede from the union.  It would be a great help; they could get away with stuff the rest of the US could never pull off.  Like take over Cuba, then claim ignorance-
" We didn't know we couldn't do that.  Hell, we thought it was vacant.  There weren’t nobody home but the help"

Yeah, I know it's not an endorsement.  It wasn't meant to be.  I just can't stand the fact that people think Texas is one big 'dude ranch'.
I'm actually pretty sick of Dallas.  I've lived here for 27 years, and that's more than enough.  Austin has the best to offer in Texas.  Lots of "Girls Gone Wild" down there.  :D

Yeah, you're probably right.  From what I've heard of Oregon, I'd go there once (because somebody paid me to) and wouldn't go back!  :p

Hey Super! I live all the way over here in Bedford :)

You are right about Austin being a nice city with lots of fine Texas beauties.

SOB,
you're not keeping the secret.  the party line is, will be, and always has been. "it rains every day, you go for months without seeing the sun........"
it's not like we haven't already endured 10-15 years of californian overflow into our state.
now you're try'n to sell texans on it too?

btw- have you heard the story about the Oregonian, Taxan, and Californian.  they where riding on horesback through northern nevada on their way through to southern Oregon.

along the way the way the Texan reaches into his sadle bags and pulls out a bottle of taquila.  he takes a long pull off the bottle, draws a pistol from his holster and tosses the rest of the bottle into the air, and shoots it on the first shot.

the other 2 look at him and say "what the hell did you do that for, I could've used a drink"

the Texan says "boys I'm from Texas, we got all the taquila any man could want or need and bottles are free"

the californian knida nods his head at that, the Oregonian shakes his head and they ride on.

a few miles up the road the Californian reaches into his bags, pulls out a nice bottle of californian wine, takes a drink, throws and shoots the bottle.

then says "I'm from California, we have all the good wine anybody could want or need and bottles are free"

so they ride on for a few more miles before crossing the border.  shortly after they cross the border, the Oregonian stops and as the others ride up and he opens his bag and pulls out a 'Henrys', tips it up and kills it off, puts the bottle back into the bag, and shoots the Californian dead.  he holsters his gun and turns to the Texan.  "You're in Oregon now son, you don't waste good beer, we have more Californians than anyone could want or need, and that bottles a nickle"

You'll notice that Steinbeck didn't stick around Salinas once he was old enough to escape.
