Title: Lies
Post by: easymo on October 23, 2002, 11:04:20 AM
For me, the word liberal became synonymous with the word lie, long before clinton became confused about the meaning of "is".

Since I am a vet.  I will use this as an example. The propaganda coming out of Hollywood, and the media was so insistent that even conservatives belive a lot of the BS about Vietnam vets.

We all know that Vietnam vets uneducated losers.  Blacks did most of the fighting. Only the poor went. It was mostly fought by draftee's yada, yada.

Well, here are the facts, if you are interested.

Easymo, they(the libs) will simply take the path of least resistence in this debate and say that your "source" (Newsmax, Fox, Free republic, take your pic) is not credible.

Here's an example of a way to "lie" with the "truth":

"Myth: The war in Vietnam was fought by teenagers barely old enough to shave, while World War II was fought by men. A much-repeated statistic claims that the average age of the Vietnam soldier was 19, while the average age of the World War II soldier was 26.

Reality: The average age of men killed in Vietnam was 22.8 years, or almost 23 years old. While the average age of those killed was 22.8, more 20-year-olds were killed than any other age, followed by 21-year-olds, then 19-year-olds. More 52-year- olds (22) died in Vietnam than youths of 17 (12). The oldest American serviceman killed was 62. Almost 11 percent of those who died were 30 years of age or older."

Liberals do it.  Conservatives do it.  Only your dog doesn't lie.

I have nothin' but the highest respect for Vietnam vets...

anyway... I found this kinda funny:

"[Author] B.G. Burkett, a military researcher, was co-chairman of the Texas Vietnam Memorial with President George Bush as Honorary chairman."

I heard he was keepin' up with the chairmans meetings until he mysteriously stopped showing up... The minutes indicate that his wherabouts cannot be accounted for, and they cannot explain his absence. Past members of the counsil have put up a $20,000 reward for anyone who could prove that he was indeed an active chairman during the period in question, but so far the reward has gone unclaimed.

Oh I get it...

If you're a liberal and you somehow believe the myths, you're a liar. But... if you're a conservative, you're just mistaken and misinformed.

Here is another from the same source -

Myth: Agent Orange poisoned millions of Vietnam veterans.

Over the ten years of the war, Operation Ranch Hand sprayed about eleven million gallons of Agent Orange on the South Vietnamese landscape. (the herbicide was called "orange" in Vietnam, not Agent Orange. That sinister-sounding term was coined after the war) Orange was sprayed at three gallons per acre that was the equivalent of .009 of an ounce per square foot. When sprayed on dense jungle foliage, less that 6 percent ever reached the ground. Ground troops typically did not enter a sprayed area until four to six weeks after being sprayed. Most Agent Orange contained .0002 of 1 percent of dioxin. Scientific research has shown that dioxin degrades in sunlight after 48 to 72 hours; therefore, troops exposure to dioxin was infinitesimal.

I have alot of respect for vietvets as well. No names required mentioning but I have met plenty in my life. One of my school principals was an F-100 pilot, saw combat during the war (he ands I were close friends .) I've met quite a few other pilots types from the war as well.  One of my english teachers was an infrantryman, and some others who were Airforce techcnicians. I hold alot of respect for these men or anyone who has served their country and stand for freedom.

Freedom is one of the few things worth dying for.
