Great game, got a final beta copy from the distributor a while ago. It's basically the same game with a lot of improvements, such as wind affecting the fires lit by molotov cocktails, tanks covering arcs, better AI...

As soon as I get the retail version, I'm up for some TCP/IP / PBEM games!

Sirloin I chose a quick battle, 800 points, I think its 20 turns, Everything random except for Full Ammo.

I hope you get to pick a better setup than I did, For real I got crap. Guess I'll have to make do with what I got.

Sunking - play the GI Combat demo before you buy it.  So far, my opinion, and the overriding opinion of the people who have played it, is that it is complete toejam.  There are so many problems with camera, command, and AI that I was left with the feeling there was no possible way the people who made it had actually been involved in making Close Combat.  Biggest disappointment of the year. :(

It is a great game.  Those interested will also find our erstwhile friend, Hortlund, over on the battlefront.com BBS.

Hey, I'm up for a game myself.

Someone fire an e-mail to me, tcofield@attbi.com

My simhq e-mail isn't working, maybe they wised up, fired me and didn't say anything.

BTW, you might end up in my review of the game.

Combat Mission OWNS Close Combat.  It's like comparing a Ferrari to a Yugo.

I lay down smoke onto the Objective. But it looks like the Reds will have the building before I do.

While in Game...Hit Print Screen

Then after your done playing or you can Alt Tab out. Open any Graphics program and hit paste.

You might have to crop it to make it smaller to fit on the BBS.

Actually Combat Mission was to be Close Combat!! M$ decided to drop the contract with Battlefront when the development was well under way.

The Developers went on to create one superb game that would have indeed been a great success for M$ Game$.

Suckers. :p

Shite guys, I've got Combat Mission, but I've never been good at it. I always rush in, and enver take into account Line of Vision and stuff like that.

More importantly, I always mis-time my assaults. They're so damned slow foot soldiers. And I never can use mortars right.

So how about giving me some good, solid general rules and suggestions? I'll find CM again. Or buy CMBB. But only if you chaps help me out with this. I'm good at figuring out how to kill Bishrook in  the air, but on the ground is another matter.

And keep the AARs coming :)

Hm, mebbe I should practise, and then play against you chaps. And use my highly not-succesful Viking Berserk Infantry Vs Tanks strategy

Santa let me know if you want a game.  I have some experience, but I'm not Superman.  And if you suck, it's pretty easy to adjust the quick battle settings to balance it.  I don't mind playing against stacked odds - MORE TARGETS!

edit: Tried to attach some screen captures but I need to reduce their size somehow...this may take awhile I suck when it comes to graphics programs. :)

Yeah, do what funked said. Likewise, I advise you download and follow the grafenwohr tutorial.  The darn thing is cool; I don't have much patience for the really big missions.  Actually, truth be told, I'm a big fan of infantry and artillery-- maybe a few tanks, but they just tend to make a mess of things.
Coordinating an attack in CM is the closest I've seen a game come to the reality of command in an AH scenario. ;)

and yeah, PBEM is the coolest.  I love watching the other guy put together a push towards an objective, then turn tail once the rockets start splashing.
one of these days I should get CMBB.

I love it when arty-boy chases my retreating troops too far and runs right into my counterattack.

Well, after 20 hard fought turns of battle,my comrads were able to hold the victory location with a minimum of losses. The difference was I was able to purchase armour and Nefarious was not...His AT teams were not able to flank my tank and shot after shot disintegrated on my frontal armour. One bazooka Joe was getting dangerously close with his aim,so I took out his building with the KV-1's main gun, then mowed him down with my rifle squad as he ran for the hills...:D

After the battle we both collected the dead and I took this screenie.

War is Hell.
