My favorite marching song, from the late 60's
Yo left, yo left
Yo left, right, left
A little bird...
(a little bird)
With a yellow bill...
(a yellow bill)
Landed on...
(landed on)
My window sill...
(my window sill)
So I lured 'em in
(I lured 'em in)
With a piece of bread...
(a piece of bread)
And-then-I-stomped-his...
f*ck-in-head
Yo left, Yo left
Yo left, right, left... :p

Wow, I used to know many... memory lost em. This one I still remember for being my favorite:
I hear the choppers coming
They’re flying overhead
They’ve come to get the wounded
They’ve come to get the dead
Airborne (shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot to kill)
Ranger (shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot to kill)*
My buddy’s in a foxhole
A bullet in his head
The Army says he’s living
But I know that he’s dead
I ran to tell the C-O
About my buddy’s head
But when I got there
The C-O was dead
And now the battle’s over
The smoke is all around
We wanted to go home
But we’re six feet underground
Now that I see it years later, its stupid that they teach this kind of song to a bunch of cadets who never fired a rifle.
Heh, we would have gone to combat if they let us.
What a bunch of weak tards you can make with a few propaganda songs and tales of heroic deeds.

There she was just a-walkin' down the street, singing
Doo-wah-diddy
Diddy Dum Diddy Doo...

You don't march to songs;)

Heard this one:
Heey there ARMY...
Get on your tanks and follow me!
I am the Marine Corps infantry..
Heey there NA-AYVY...
Get on your ships and follow me!
I am the Marine Corps infantry...
Heey there Air Fo-hrce...
Get on your planes and follow me!
I am the Marine Corps infantry..
Heey there Failures...
Get off your butts and follow me!
I am the Marine Corps infantry..
I think I have the MP3 somewhere...

Hehe, I remembered one that I had the priviledge of witnessing.
Military service is mandatory for 1 year after high school in my country, so there we were in the processing station getting the "check" when we see this group run by.. with only the drill sargeant singing solo:
Uuunnooo de estos ANIMALES no es como los otros
Cual es? Cual sera?
Pon atencion y lo averiguaras.
(Sesame Street had a part where they did a "guess what animal is this" section.. so the drill instructor was singing this... in english its roughly
"One of this animals is not like the other
Which one is? Which one would it be?
Pay attention and you'll find out"

I have that song in MP3 (Bomben Auf England) if anyone wants it ;)
2.07 megs, mp3

Yellow Ribbon was always a favorite.
Around her hair she wore a yellow ribbon
She wore it in the spring time, in the early month of May
And if you asked her why the heck she wore it
She'd say she wore it for her Cav Scout who was far, far away
Far away
Far away
She wore it for her Cav Scout who was far, far away
Around the block she pushed a baby carriage
She pushed it in the spring time, in the early month of May
And if you asked her why the heck she pushed it
She'd say she pushed it for her Cav Scout who was far, far away
Far away
Far away
She pushed it for her Cav Scout who was far, far away
Behind the door, her father kept a shotgun
She kept it in the spring time, in the early month of May
And if you asked her why the heck she kept it
She'd say she kept it for her Cav Scout who was far, far away
Far away
Far away
She kept it for her Cav Scout who was far, far away
Around his grave she laid the pretty flowers
She laid them in the spring time, in the early month of May
And if you asked her why the heck she laid them
She'd say she laid them for her Cav Scout who was far, far away
Far away
Far away
She laid them for her Cav Scout who was far, far away
I seem to remember a particularly dirty one to the tune of du wah diddy, but I cant remember any specifics right now :)

He's a mean mother f*cker, he's a 23 man!

Whatcha gonna do?
He's a 23 man

Amazing what you still remember some 17 years later :)

'Yellow Ribbon' - good for marching and faster modes of travel as well. :)
The version I was taught has slightly different words than the 'Official Army' version, but the 'far away' chorus is the best part in my opinion.
I also learned 'Erika' from some Germans - apparently that's a *really old* one and the words are very cool. For what's it's worth the Poles (the modern day ones I met) seem to like that one as well.

I seem to remember two versions as well. Both related to what put that poor soldier in the grave :) Can't remember the bawdy one though. It only came out when we were away from administrative areas.
My favorite from basic was "Here we go again..." that ended ...marching down the avenue, 20 more days (counted down each day till graduation) and we'll be through, I'll be glad and so will you!"

As a side note: While going through basic/ait at Ft. Knox we would have Marine tankers around getting their tank training. Boy, those guys shure could march pretty! I'm serious, they are some bad-assed marchers :)
