I would really like to see 'the Beast' in Aces High. it's 30 miles faster than the Dauntless, has almost twice the bomb load, plus later versions are armed with 2 20mm cannons, rockets and bomb racks. I think it would make a fine addition to the Hellcat and the Corsair for some late war Pacific scenarios.

And what planes would it fly aganst in those secnarious? Curently we have tons of US equipment from the mid early and late periouds, and very little from Japan the primary enemy of the Hell diver. IMO since the Japanese are so underrepresented by comparison it would be best if we saw planes added for them in the short term instead of spending time on the Helldiver, if for no other reasion than to make for a more interesting event, one in which US planes were not being subed for Japanese types.
As to the Helldiver as a plane:Quotes from Bombers of WW2 ISBN # 1-56799-683-3:
"the only thing wron was the aircraft itself. To a man the US Navy prefered the old SBD, which simply kept on in the forfront of the battle"
"The other mass-produced Curtiss of WW2 was the SO3C Seamew, and it is doubtful if two less-successful aircraft have been ever built in numbers."
" The experance played a magor part in the decline of the once pre-ement names of Curtis and Wright in the imediate post war era"
"Structural weakness, generaly poor handeling, shockingly inadequate stabality(espichaly in yaw and pitch) and unexceptable stall characteristics."
" crashes, inflight breakups and carier landing accidents continued at the very top of the league table"
" To everyone in the US Navy this aircraft was The Beast"
-
i thought "the beast" was the Il-10...if you're sick of US planes & they have to add another one i'm sure you'd prefer a bad one...lol...but seriously, i'd bet that, w/ the SBD already in the planeset, the helldiver is probably pretty low on the list of new planes to add. of the obvious gaps in the planeset, i'd say the missing stuka is the biggest, or maybe the italian or soviet bomber
-
When HTC's emphasis was still back on late-war planes, I thought this would be an excellent addition to the planeset. Now that we have the SBD, the Helldiver has practically dropped off my list. Not because I don't like it - but because its niche is already filled. I was disappointed to see the SBD but have to say its beautiful.
Sorta like the B-25 - I love the plane, but with the B-26 already here and the Japanese still missing so much of their planeset, where would I rather HTC spend their limited a/c development time? IJAAF planes!
I'll always have a thing for the Beast though.

then they should add some more Jap aircraft, AND the Helldiver :)
-
I still want the Helldiver!:(
-
No, AH needs more 109s! Dangit!
More 109s, HiTech, more 109s! We like it! We love it! We want more of it!
-
hmm... I appreciate the irony, but I WANT THE HELLDIVER!!!!!!!!!!
-
Why dont you wish on a Shoting Star:)
-
NO! NO! and NO!. It's not the Helldiver :(
-
But it is a Shoting Star:)
-
the only Shooting Star I know of is the P80 .One, it was a jet, two, it was not Japanese.
Please, please, please, bring the Helldiver to AH
-
B7A Ryusei(Shoting Star), funny this Grace thread has a lot of the Helldiver in it:)
-
udet,
"Ryusei" is Japanese nickname of B7A carrier-based attack bomber.
It also means "Shooting Star" in English. :/
-
I have a question for anybody who might know. Was that camo pattern on the Grace intentional or just wear and tear? I've seen others with even more bare metal showing.

Wear and tear.

Hey, I started this thread and it is about the Helldiver. So forget about some rice eating Jap flying mousetrap and gimme some input on whether you want the Helldiver in AH or not.
-
The Helldiver is armed with 2 Hispanos in the nose...imagine the HO whines!
Of course, HO is about all it could do :) But for MA purposes it'd be a decent choice and would probably see some use in fleet battles, particularly the ones where the fleet gets parked only a few limes offshore It carries about as much ordnance as any of the Navy fighters and could strafe better than any of the CV planes except the perked F4U-1C. Being a bomber-type plane I imagine it'd also be marginally more survivable in MA base-attack missions. It'd certainly see more use than the TBM :)
The "rice-eating mousetrap" would also be a good choice, better able to protect itself against enemy fighters but it wouldn't carry as much ordnance.

No ty, the Helldiver was huge pos in real life and the Navy hated it thats why it is called "The Beast" . The Grace on the other hand was a superlative plane, handeling comparable to the Zero, great speed and preformance for it's type, and a very usable load, very rugaed construction, good defensive aramement and two Type 99 MK II cannons firing forward( same guns as the N1K2-J). The US plane set is laughafably devaloped compared to the other countryes in AH espichaly the Japanes, Russians and Italians.
-
Well this thread was about the Helldiver and he asked for support :)
Otherwise I agree with you.

Well... I feal his pain I know all about wanting a plane and secreatly knowing it more than likely will never come to throughition. But Don't give up hope m8t Your dream plane is US and HTC likes to model US planes:)
-
there's nothing wrong with that. It's easier to find info on US or British planes, therefore they will be modelled more realistically.
-
Not any time soon. The plane was not reliable and the pilots of the time preferred the plane we've already got, the Dauntless.
The Helldiver could be added later on after much of the glaring holes in the planeset are patched.
