Another inductee into the Ripsnort "Lead by example" hall of fame is Emmit Smith, who broke Walter Paytons all time leading rushing record. He joins another NFL RB, Barry Sanders, from an era that is quickly passing us, those who don't flaunt, those who lead by example.
{Salute} To Emmit Smith

Sorry I can't root for ANYONE that plays for the Dallas Cowboys.
OK OK he did good.
-
Yes, he is a great runningback that did lead by example. When he removed his helmet right after a touchdown to look into the cameras, he set the example for the NFL forcing the penalty flag for removing helmets on the field.
I do give him credit for staying out of the news off the field. Troy Aikman too. How both seemed to "keep their noses clean" on those Dallas teams is beyond me.

That was after his little drug habit, can you say "Crutch" ?

No rip... that was between drug habbits.
I'm sure most NFL stars you talk to would acknowledge being devout Christians. Even the ones that just came back from an all-night hooker and coke hotel session.

hehe, I rest my case.

No rip.. you miss the point. He claimed being a christian early in his career too. even before the first "mishap". He refound God then had a re-occurance.
I bet Michael Irving would also lay claim to being devout Christian. Its just more of a suprise when a "Devout Christian" actually is devout. Its not a criteria for success by any means.

Forcing the NFL to make a stupid rule that does NOTHING for the sport. They dont call it the No Fun League for the heck of it.
-
I may be wrong, but I think there was a particular event a couple years ago where a player removed his helmut after sacking the QB and held it high, did alittle strut off the field. They couldn't flag him for his casual strut, so they made a no-helmut-removal rule when a couple more instances of the same happened.'
Like I related in the original post, we're rapidly losing that thing called "Good Sportsmanship".
-
Good sportmanship is for people who suck at cheating.
Now I must remember to boot up my HEX editor before I start Aces High. MY 190 will be TRULY historic(al).

And just as rapidly, the NFL is becoming the No Fun League.

You are correct had nothing to do with Emmitt or the other 50% of players in the leagues that removed their helmets after touchdowns. It was put in effect to stop the guys who did it on the field, your example was what pushed it over the edge.

Its about upholding a tradition, that of one which you can say you were proud of to be part of. Celebrating 1st downs by taunting other players isn't what sportsmanship is about, its about Barry Sanders placing the ball in the Refs hands, then going back and getting yet another TD. Like I said, we're losing that sportsmanship...its all about "Look at me!" instead of teamwork in most games I see today.
-
I remember Walter Payton. He wore number 34. At that time in Chicago Bears, I remember William "The Fridge" Perry (72) and Mike Singletary (50). (I thought I liked Singletary, but went right off him when I discovered he was a fire and brimstone Christian - the worst kind) No idea about the positions they played in. I remember them winning superbowl 20. Beat the New England Patriots 46-10. I have now exhausted my knowledge of American football. There is as much chance of my understanding that as there is of you guys understanding cricket.

Cheating is what foreigners do, when they beat us.
