Title: Fester-like missions
Post by: Angus on October 30, 2002, 11:23:15 AM
Lately, Fester (Bish) has been submitting many missions, and getting quite a crowd to fly with him.
I have been on some, and to my pleasure, no two missions seem to be the same. There are SBD missions to kill fleets, there are Luftwaffe Jabo missions with the 190F in the main role, etc etc.
This is working good and adds a great spice to AH in my opinion. This is what it is all about, using the whole planeset, creating atmosphere, broadening the game.
So for this, thumbs up for Fester, and I challenge the nits and rooks to do the same stuff.  S! Fester :)

Angus,

You will see more missions in Rookland once we start to rebuild our numbers. But for right now you won't see anywhere near the amount Fester makes. Simply because when you have just 80 - 90 pilots and and are trying to stop 3-4 major offensives by opponents it isn't really conductive for the mission editor. The pressure in such an environment is to be more fluid and time sensitive to react to attacks.

I think missions are great for offensives but they are bit cumbersome when trying to run a defense.

When we get more breathing room you will see more missions used for offensives.

Yeah... I've been in a few Rook missions over the last two weeks where, by the time the mission finally launches our field is in total ruins and capped. I've been in others where a force 5 times your size ups from the targeted field, intercepts and crushes you. Sometimes you just don't have many options. Even diversionary stuff can be impossible because every field surrounding you is one giant tomato farm. Ah well... :)

But it is fun trying ... and fun trying to disrupt the enemy.

As for suicide JABO attacks. To an extent at times Rooks have been force to them. But not the mass force JABO attack some times seen. Instead its been more like 4 planes or 6 planes with ordinance go after a field trying to kill the fuel and barracks to ruin the base as a staging area for our opponents offensives. And then the planes stick around as long as they can try to shoot things down and disrupt the aircraft at the field (not very long usually).

Some of my most fun missions have been JABO attacks that I have known are oneway. Not auger missions but hit with ordinance and then stay low on the deck fighting over the field till an enemy or AA nails me. A disruptive JABO attack instead of an auger JABO attack.

the answer for you rooks is simple

but very hard 2 implement since most rooks are loners

we call em FIGHTER SWEEP missions........

1 rook or 2...easy kill

9 or 10 makes it very hard

think think my rook dweebs

start sticking together...started knights(semi-mission oriented)....went rooks not long ago.......didn't like the loner stuff...went bishops...very very mission oriented

when on defense......CALL out free beer free nekkid sheep.....do something.

start showin some promisin stuff and we'll see about going back
and joining rooks.

Actually the Rooks are starting to organize again and cooperate more. But it centers around squads leading the way. We have the RJO (Rook Joint Operations) which now encompasses 29 out of the 80 squads who fly Rook. The squads are dedicated to working together in the MA to try to leverage our numbers so that instead of small groups of one squad trying to do something that now a couple small elements of a several squads link up and work together.

The problem we had was we were not very aggressive about identifying squads not in the RJO and independents. That has changed.

As for 9 - 10 Rooks upping together and flying together. Its happens .. actually quite a lot theses days but even a wing of 9-10 is still badly out numbered at times. So alot of tactics have changed to disrupting incoming attacks with sweeps and alot of Rooks have switched to flying late war planes that have the speed and climb to do better in the target rich environment.

Give us times .. things are starting to change.

Slowhand next time you think about vacationing in Rookland fire off an email and we'll make sure to show you a good time on your vacation with us. :)

dgideon@dgideon.org

Or just ask if any RJO squads up and what they are up too. I am sure several will answer you and link up.

Actually Manx put a mission up for rookland yesterday with the 441 silver fox (the squad Slowhand quit when he realized he couldn't hang against numbers).  It was a mossie-spit9 mission aimed at taking a base.  We had many non-squad participants join in and captured the air base.  Was great fun!

FESTERs missions are the most enjoysble part of AH for me. I have been on around 10 sorties with him and the team and they are guaranteed to be a blast.

I would never have thought that a squadron strenth attack force of IL2's could even reach an enemy field, let alone capture it. But FESTER structures the missions so well, that even 'hopeless' aircraft have a chance to be used correctly.

Fester.

If I could mention the AH programming bug, that means that you cant run missions past 18:00 in AH time. Please fix this!

rthus runs a lot of defensive/small-scale/squad-based missions in part of the Rooks. NOE raids, counterattacks, strat porking and etc...  There are a lot of different missions around. The 20+ plane Typhoon kamikaze sort are just only one of them, and something only the numer-privileged countries can do (often with horribly inefficient results :D )

As for the Rooks, well, the Rook country itself is a part of a wholesome, giant 90-man mission: "defend the homeland" -  We've got routine interceptions, interdictions, A2A engagements, counter-attack and porking, furballs, level-bombing, dive-bombing, torpedoing .. you name it :D

The good part is, its non-stop. No waiting. Just up anywhere and you're part of it :D

missions need a more visible entry point.

currently if no one yells on channel 2 over and over that a mission is up then no one joins it at all.

kind of lame having to do that.

Yeah, I believe quite a few of those members are probably the same people who used to run the Cz Defence Force in AW - Stiletto for instance?  Knowing the sort of plans he used to come up with, I can see the Rooks being quite a formidable force to be reckoned with whenever RJO ops are in progress....

You spelled "my" wrong.  Like most people you occasionally forget you're not the only one playing, and shockingly enough not everyone plays for the same reason.  :p

I'm thinking we need a furball arena for people of your ilk.  Only six fields, none of which can be captured (two per side).  One field per side has no ack, but fuel, radar, and hangers can't be destroyed.  The other field has indestructable uber ack so it's hard to vulch.

We can even disable GVs and bombers, just in case someone wants to ruin your game.

Heck, I'd even go there when I was in the furballing mood, which is about half the time.
Title: Mission Editor Advice?
Post by: Gooss on October 31, 2002, 11:24:18 AM
I'd like to see more missions and would be willing to organize some.  But, I hate re-inventing the wheel.

Any tips on using the Mission Editor?  How to create, save, and re-use missions?  Is it possible to share (email) missions?

Maybe someone knows of an article or thread already posted?

Thanks.

Actually, Manx agreed w/ me 100%... but did say he never said it publicly..you left because of me?  lol
I'm pleased to know I can influence people from my desk.. so many miles away.  I must have had a profound influence on you, I can barely remember speaking to you..I always got the feeling you'd rather I left you alone....such a warm fuzzy I received from you!

this is the last time i'm gonna talk about that squad steve......

Manx's opinion means nothing to me.......and so does yours.

He has changed for the worse and I'm not the only 1 with this opinion.......never mind who!

It was a question of tactics....not numbers....is why I left the squad.....plus manx wasn't interested in leavin rooks.....rooks strategy just didn't FIT in my ENJOYMENT of the game.....no missions...no fun banter on channel 2.....too many loners(cherry pickers)(furballers)....generally no fun.

then I went KNIGHTS, where I 1st started playin this game.....but a friend ASKED to go BISHOPS....since then I been having fun with people I used to kill.....excellent bunch of guys.

Oh!!! btw.....have fun.

remember this is a GAME.
