last night the democratic party held a republican fund raiser, during the 4 hour wellstone "memorial" the Min repubs had $150,000 in contributions.
-
yeah, but hey, it was "Fun and games" for most Dems there last night ;)
-
yep televised campaigning under the guise of a memorial ... how low can you go
but what else do you expect from this crowd of clowns
-
gee I could swear I saw a bunch of democrats all weekend blaming the republicans for politicizing his death.
Guess I was right when I thought they all looked like a bunch of hypocrite snakes. To Ventura and Lott....
-
You need more former wrestlers in US politics.
Seriously.
Ventura's cool
-
What else would you expect from the party of Clinton? Shameless, ambitious, tacky.

If the Clintons hadn't showed up, you'd be calling them selfish, irresponsible, and disloyal to their own party member and his family during their time of mourning. Big surprise you found something to whine about anyway.
-
It's the entire Democratic party I'm criticizing, not just the Clintons. And your definition of 'whine' is weak. That rally disguised as a memorial was downright ghoulish. Power hungry scum, the whole lot.

disgusting but not surprising - kudos to ventura for bailing early.
-
I wonder what Wellstone and his wife would have felt. Maybe you ought to ask his family how much a disservice to the dead the event was. But they're probably just dumb Democrats anyway.
-
No one has any right to critise this expect the dead guy, his family, and his friends.
-
His sons were there.
-
Looked like an erzatz Woodstock to me. With even worse music if that's possible.
A disgrace........

the service, which featured speeches from Wellstone family members and friends who urged the crowd to remember Wellstone when they cast their votes next week
Imagine that... his family and friends urging everyone to continue Wellstone's fight.
I'm not at all surprised that a memorial for a politician turned into a political rally.
I'm not a big Wellstone follower, but from what I've read about him, I doubt that he would have disapproved. Not that it matters. Funerals/memorials/wakes are for the living, not for the dead.
Of course... maybe the view from that high horse is a bit different than mine.
-
And look at you all making political hay over someones death. What hypocracy.
-
I guess thinking it was pretty low-class, tasteless, rude, and, ummm, STUPID to "boo" some of the people who attended this public embarrassment of a "memorial/wake/photo-op/political rally" to pay their respects was definitely a "view from a high horse" all right.
I reckon the "view" was pretty low from that bowl-legged love muffin those idiot Lefties were sitting on. The Liberal Democrats showed for the umpteeenth time that there is no limit to the depths these creeps will descend..............

Oh admit it cabby the lefties are organizing hardcore, they HATE you and your ilk and so you're FREAKED out. Because when they rule again you are SO screwed. They're gonna come down on you like 1000 horny wildabeasts and ransack your domacile. They will destroy all of your Eagles records. They will even attempt to penetrate you, have the after-sex cigarette then go to your fridge and make themselves a sandwich. Leaving YOU to clean up the mess.
This isn't the 50's anymore. It's ok to be frightened. If I lived in Carolina I would be happy to come over and give you a hug. Buck up, friend.

Living in MN, I got a pretty good eye view on reaction to the fiasco, and alot of people here are upset.
This event was supposed to be a memorial to the dead, but instead some self serving glory hounds made it about themselves and what they wanted. Probably thought "this is my time to be in the spotlight, to show people who I am".
Like so many others, I didnt agree with Wellstone on much, but I knew he was a decent, caring and honest man who worked hard for those he served. And unlike most politicians, I think Wellstone actually believed he served his constiuents, not the other way around. What a shame some close to him destroyed the one last evening when people gathered to honor him.
Jesse Jackson showed up, but he always does when he thinks he can grab some publicity. The Clintons disgust me, and they showed up. At least they kept their mouths closed.
I honestly was undecided until this event on who to vote for, I was not in favor of either Republican or Democratic candidate. I have made my choice now, I will be punching the Republican chad as my small statement against that crap.

Wellstone's possible last will and testamount.
Dear wife and kids,
When I die I wish the party that was such a big part of my life, the dems, to make as much money as possible at my memorial.
Sigh, you hypocrits with your BS righteous indignation. You don't give flying diddly what the ACTUAL DEAD GUY would have wanted, as long as your BS sense of proprioty is met and as long as you can sit there and squeak about then dems.

What about the families of the victims besides the Wellstones?
Ya think that young man, working as a staffer? You think his family wanted some Democrats to make hay instead off his death?
Maybe the families of the pilots? I am sure they wanted their loss ignored so some self serving opportunists could take advantage of the memorial service.
Maybe in his last moments on earth, or his first moments in the afterlife (ignores theological debate), maybe Wellstone had a moment of great enlightenment and realized that things like politics dont matter and it's lifes tender relationships that do?
Maybe mourning the dead and offering rememberances are important to those left behind?
I sure as heck do not think for one minute that a single soul who perished on the crash would actually have wanted their deaths used as an opportunity to stump for votes.
as long as your BS sense of proprioty is met and as long as you can sit there and squeak about then dems.
Thrawn, I wonder if you can see the real hypocrisy here? Your sitting in judgement of others, because they have opinions regarding what the MN Democrats did at a memorial service?

the law states, if I understand correctly, NO televised campaign speeches within 30 days of a local election
the crooks,er dumbacrats, found another way to circumvent the law - surprise, surprise ...
it was never to be a memorial, just a political rally in disguise - look at who was invited, who was turned away and who said what once they had the camera on them... pathetic
-
Thrawn till you can show me in his REAL will where he wanted the Demos to use his funeral as a way to promote themselfs you should take YOUR BS righteous indignation and shove it up your ASS!
I don't care what party this was it was still wrong!

Simple enough solution. Turn off the cameras.

yeah, you'd think. But they invited the cameras

Have to keep in mind... this was a memorial service for Paul Wellstone. He was a politician. He was personnally involved with politics and passionate about it.
It should be no surprise that his memorial became a political rally.
From what I've read about Wellstone, I think he would have approved.

Maybe so Sandman, but it is still tasteless IMO, particularly given the free TV air time. It is fun to see all the republican outrage on the board though, as if the Repubs (especially at the local political level) have never been tastless or opportunistic.

It's the notion that a memorial can be tasteless at all that I wonder about.
Some of the best parties I've ever been to started out as funerals.
-
Was Wellstone Irish? Maybe it was an Irish wake.
The loudest most politically motivated and rousing speech at the event was delivered by Wellstone himself. (on tape)
How dare they get political at the memorial to a career politician. sheesh!
And Jesse can just STFU, I'll kick his bellybutton from here to tomorrow if I were ever to meet that whimpy blowhard!!!!!!!!!!
(looks quickly around for Mr. Ventura)

You guys don't get it, how silly of my to think libs would undertand common sense. The dems start the very day after the mans death with "the republicans are trying to politicize this honorable man's death" All I saw was republicans saying how there wasn't another democrat they knew who believed in what he faught for like he did, and that away from the senate he was a "great guy" and they all liked him.
Meanwhile Democrats saying the repubs are trying to make political gain from his death, when they themselves planned the very same thing. Blantant hypocracy, yet again, and yet again accepted by the rank and file democrats. You guys are sad....

I'm not a democrat. I vote for whomever I please.

I can tell you right now many dumbacrats I'll be voting for then ....
ZERO, nada, zip, 0, none, not a chance in hell
yah. yah yah, here comes the ole "I vote the issues" line
why? you think they do when it comes down to the brass tacks or maybe they all just cover each others back and tow the party line?
-
   :p :D

Once again, you try to fit the entire world into this black/white model of yours.

The memorial service spoke loudly. I believe many eyes were opened.
Will the name of Paul Wellstone ever be heard after November 5th?
