Another rapper... another entertainer... take your pick....

hard to believe that someone like that would be a victim of violence... and what a loss to the world!

why don't you tell us? He seemed important enough to you for you to start a thread about him. What set him apart from others who have died today?
-
He's a celeberity- remember Run DMC ?

Shush Rip... you're spoiling the troll/counter-troll game Laz and I are playing. :)

I'm betting that AirHead is older than Eagler.
Of course... I could be wrong.

I enjoy Jazz, rock, classical, big band, you name it. The only music I DON'T like is rap. Call me old fashioned, I just don't like it. Love alot of the new stuff out today, unless its rap.

I think I maybe older but I could be wrong :)
I'm a young 43 here
I think/thought Airhead would be under 30 ...

I used to be the same way... I've got a good friend that turned me on to it and between that and the stuff my teenage son listens to, I've grown fond of it.
I've started raiding Kazaa for all the old stuff that I rejected just out of hand... LL Cool J, Run-DMC, Beastie Boys, etc...
I think I prefer the old school stuff over some of the newer rap/rock like, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, etc...
FWIW... I'm 40.
-
I thought airhead had a teen. Prolly puts him at least mid-late 30's.
-
Sandman, any desires to wear your pants down around your knees, or been tempted to go find any crack on the street lately? just curious... :D

None at all.
Oh... and my son doesn't dress like a hoodlum either.
-
Airhead is at least 50..., but a young hip 50.
I'm 45 and I knew Run-DMC through their Aerosmith video. My sons wouldn't be caught dead listening to those "sell-out rappers". They saw them as just slightly more cool than the Fresh Prince, but just slightly.
Master J getting killed will probably do wonders for their gangsta mystique and boost sales.

If I understand the history, the "gangsta rappers" pretty much pushed RunDMC out of the market. Also, I'm not up on the real differences, but the purists tell me that RunDMC is hip-hop, not rap.
Don't ask me the difference... I'm far too old to tell. :)
-
If you say so.
I'm just gonna pour me another gin and juice and hang in the LBC.
thats whats crackin dawg.
-
I don't know who he was. But then, I only listen to REAL music.
Sneeringly, Shuckins
-
I'm not sure what you consider to be "real" music.
I am relatively certain that Run-DMC pulled Aerosmith out of the descending spiral they were in.
Of course... Aerosmith may not make "real" music either.

:DSecond song down (http://new.twistedtunes.com/show/vault/alpha.asp?Var=R)
-
LOL! Based on his attitude, I though Eagler was at least 60. :D
-
I'm no fan of rap. You can call it poetry, or a chant or whatever else you want to call it. Just don't call it "music."

See how wrong your stero-type paint brush is Prawn? If he was 60, then he'd have grown up during the 1960's, and AARP supports the Democratic party :D

AAAAAAA-men Brother! The funny part about rap, anyone with offensive enough lyrics can be a star. Sign of the times? maybe. Coincidence? I think not....
-
Music reduced to its primal form.... just the beat and the words.
Plus almost anything can be made to rhyme....
mutha'd
rutha
hava
notha
Ain't that beautiful.
I guess I hate rap almost as much as my Dad hated the Greatful Dead.
-
A rapper getting shot is about as unique as a rock-n-roller dying of a drug overdose. In this case, I kind of respected the guy for what he and Run-DMC had accomplished musically.
I'm waiting for Kid Rock to end up in rehab or on a slab wearing a toe-tag.
Ozzie Osborne - the best anti-drug message on television today.

Ummm ... you're off a decade. Dad's 60 ... he grew up in the 40's and 50's ... graduated in `60. Back when most high school grads were pretty much grown up. Course ... nowadays ... how long DOES it take?:D

sry but you couldn't be more wrong about RUN D.M.C......
that kind of actually offends Jason Mizel's (Jam master J) memory.
they were anti-gangster and that whole image.
they also actually used musicians and instruments in their songs long ago.
they never cussed on their records...
never put women down...
never got into the "coast fued" crap..
they are about the only rap group i ever liked really.
1st rap w/gold
1st rap w/platinum
1st rap nominated for grammy
they are truly old school... i was into them back in 7th-8th grade in '84-'85
they kind of fell off the map after russel simmons (brother of RUN) formed DEF JAM records and took rap POP.
-
Run DMC was no gangsta rappers. They made quality hip - hop.
-
MrOrange said it -

And the answer is: Not much, except that I remember Run DMC from the 1980s...
Oh well, just another gun death in America. But they must be allowed to keep their guns, as not everyone uses their guns for killing people. A full 1% of gun owners likes to shoot at paper targets or kill innocent animals, and we must preserve that right. It would be too difficult to identify that 1%, so we'll do nothing about it and just let the other 99% go on killing people. Besides, the government needs the NRA money. :(
With all the recent gun threads, I sat up and watched "Boyz n The Hood" again last night. Funnily enough, it starts out with a murder. And then comes the caption that says one in every 21 black males will be murdered. Just think how many lives could be saved if all these black males could be given elocution lessons and taught to speak like Sir Alec Guinness. :p
-
Let the revolution begin! Power to the people!!!!!
Right Pongo?
-
NOOOOOO! please dont turn this into an gun vs anti gun debate......
Please delete your post..
-
So you are saying 99% of all USA gun owners are out there killing people?
-
just another glaring example of:
you can take the boy out of the hood, but you can't take the hood out of the boy
see many examples of this in pro basketball
-
This has to be a troll.
But it's sooooo tastey looking.
must resist!!!
nah.
-
Oh yeah... it smells...
That faint smell of "bigot" may just catch a big one though.

Boy?? He was 37.
-
Thrawn... you're from Canada I gather, so maybe you don't know...
Call a black man "boy" and don't be surprised if he punches you in the throat. Think it's a southern thing..

I'm 33, I've been some sort of musician since I was about 5 or 6 years old. My favorite music is good ole classic Metalica type metal. But I like jazz and blues and rock and some country and clasical. When I was in my 20's I started getting into fuzing different types of music. Rap is a REAL good Fuzion tool, it's solid beat.
RUN-DMC were the first to have and use this idea commercialy, and thankfully Aerosmith went along and got their "comeback". To be honest I don't know any of thier songs but "walk this way" which is Aerosmith. But they started a movement in music that has branched through most commercial styles in America and Europe.
Not very many do that. This guy was the DJ, the beat.
Sad to see him murdered and a big to him for what he did to music, and race relations ;)

Udie... go find Raising Hell...

hey ARLO - your dad's name wouldn't be woody perchance would it?
just curious :)
ps - jam master jay gone it's a shame - i don't like rap either really but at least in the form they knew it as it was tolerable and a little funny sometimes. now it's just obscene and ugly.
-
I was watching some reruns of Home Improvement the other night and noticed (not for the first time) that the set had numerous pictures of WWII era fighters strewn around; F6Fs, P-38s, etc.
I got to wondering, "Does Tim Allen fly in Aces High?"
Hello Tim! You out there? :)
Regards, Shuckins

Hmmm... shows what you don't know about RunDMC.
-
The iron thing is that this is sort of like if James Brown had died in the early 80's or something. I don't think people realize how much those 3 dudes revolutionized music.....
They weren't fek'n gangsta's....
