I'm looking for some good covers of older rock...
Any recommendations?
For example, I've got MP3 of:
Kashmir, Kevin Gilbert (it's shrecking awesome)
Mrs. Robinson, Lemonheads
Gimme Shelter, Sisters of Mercy
Strutter, The Donnas
Also worth mentioning...
Tainted Love, Maryilyn Manson
Dangerous Type, Letters to Cleo
Oh... wondering if anyone has ever covered Lyrnrd Skynrd's "On The Hunt"... not that the original isn't damn good... :)
-
Dred Zeppelin. Led Zeppelin cover band with an Elvis impersonator on lead vocals. Sounds weird, but they are great.
If anyone has any MP3s of their stuff I would really appreciate getting a copy.
-
Oh... it's not really rock, but I gotta add... Cake does a really cool "I Will Survive". :D
Curval... I've got Dred's "Livin' Lovin' Maid"...
-
I'm not sure why, but back around 1997, every punk rock band had to throw out a cover of a cheezy 80's tune. There are entire compilations available, although I can't think of any examples. Well, except for my short lived Ridgecrest Punk band (Nothing to Prove) covering "Walking on Sunshine" by Katrina and the waves.... i REALLY wish we would have recorded that. It was funny as hell.

I used to think maybe you loved me, now baybe I'm suuuuuurreee
-
Could you e-mail it to me?
ccm@cml.bm
Thanks man.
-
Shite! I had it...
Lemme do some digging... It's bound to be on a backup somewhere in this mess.
-
Radiohead - Wish you were here (Pink Floyd's) Thom Yorke's voice may weird you out at first, but once you get used to it, realize the song is performed beautifully with emotion.
Stone Temple Pilots - Break on Through (The Doors) a solid performance!
Dave Matthews Band - All Along the Watchtower (Bob Dylan) the feeling is different but its pretty nice. Its all live though, no studio recording of it.
These are old covers, but amazing covers nontheless:
Hendrix - All Along the watchtower (Bob Dylan)
Guns 'N Roses - Knocking on Heavens door (Dylan)
-
Speaking of GNR... Sheryl Crow does a pretty good Sweet Child O' Mine...
-
Ah yes, her version is pretty nice.
I want to marry that woman.
-
That woman is damn near old enough to be your mom... :D
-
You just want her for yourself you scumbag.
-
Damn straight... :D

The Church, "Box of Birds" CD has great covers of a wide range of 70-90s music.

now that i think of it, my brother has this "Saturday morning cartoons" cover album that kicks all ass
Spiderman: Ramones
Popeye: Face to Face
Scooby Doo: Some lame band that i forget the name of
Gigantor: Helmet
Eep-Opp-Ork-Ah-Ah (Jetsons): Violent Femmes
Underdog: Butthole surfers.

really good disc.

Metallica - turn the page
too many others to mention.. that one just popped up for some reason.
-
Take on Me by Reel Big Fish. Of course, that's a cover of an 80's song, but it's really good. ;)

I don't like anything Metallica has written since Master of Puppets.
I hate Bob Seger with a passion.
But that is a great cover.
-
And my vote: The Doors "Soul Kitchen" performed by X.
-
Hey Animal - I didn't know about the Radiohead cover... just d/l'd it now... very cool. Thanks.

Just downloaded their version of Hotel California...
Way too cool...
-
The Smashing Pumpkins redid The Cars "You're All I've Got Tonight" and Alice Cooper's "Clones (We're All)", and both are pretty rockin.
-
I normally hate this guy, but.......
Michael Bolton's "Dock of the Bay" is very good. Mrs. Redding even liked it :).
-
I think the more accurate name is "No Talent bellybutton Clown".
:D

Didnt know it existed either. Not on any record. I found it accidentally while searching for another song. Glad you liked it :)

ROFLMAO .. u seen "Office Space" too many times like me? :D
BTT.
Dave Matthew's cover of "Watchtower" prolly the most powerful cover i've ever heard.
Faith No More did a good cover of "War Pigs"
Pearl Jam: "Last Kiss" is even more haunting than the original
Pearl Jam ( Again): "Little Wing" live is equally as awsome
OK more Pearl Jam (it's sad how much i like them)
Dock on the Bay Live
Baba o'riley Live is highlight of 1st encore at shows(spelled wrong prolly)

Leningrad Cowboys!

Yeah... movie is way too cool... :)

The Ramones covering 'Palisades Park' is a good one.
Also, the best version of 'Hotel California' ever done is done by the Gypsy Kings - it's on the soundtrack for 'The Big Lebowski'.
Normally I don't care much for the Eagles (they are good, just not my style) - but I really like the Gypsy Kings' version.
Mike/wulfie
-
Cool... I'll look for that...
Oh... one more to add to the list... Back in Black by the Hives. :)
-
SLAYER - In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida
-
Sandman, if you liked "Gimme shelter" with TSoM, you gotta hear "Comfortably Numb/Some kind og stranger". Unfortunately only got it as a rather poorish live recording thing.
The Sisters also got "Gimme gimme gimme" which is quite amusing, and "Jolene" which is also fun.
And Bad Religions "Joy To The World" always cracks me up :).
-
Best cover I got here is Jefferson Airplane's "Somebody to Love" by Agent Orange. It's hard to find...only came out on an EP back in the late 80's.
-
I forgot this one. Pete Yorn does The Smiths' "Panic". (http://www.raf303.org/funked/Pete%20Yorn%20-%20Panic.mp3)
I love the town name substitutions.
-
And Junior Brown's medley of "Pipeline", Walk Don't Run", and "Secret Agent Man".
-
Holy.... Pete Yorn and the Smiths... Funked? ... damn, ya think ya know a guy.
-
Ya know I'm not a big fan of either one.
I like some of the Smiths songs but the production on the original "Panic" is so cheesy that I can't listen to it.
I guess I always listened to that song and said, "ya know it would be nice if somebody could record this without cheesy syntho bells and crappy backup singers." :)
-
Can't argue with ya. 80's production wrecked almost everything it touched. I can go back and listen to bands recorded in the 70's and 90's... but it's difficult to do that with most of the 80's stuff. You said it... cheesy.

Being a huge Soundgarden fan I'd like to toss out
M.A.C.C. (McCready, Ament, Cornell, Cameron) sorta a super group, the Pearl Jam/Soundgarden All-Stars if you will.. Anway they did a remake of Jimi Hendrixs Hey Baby (Land of The New Rising Sun). You can find it the Stone Free tribute album.
Soundgarden also did a cover of Come Together by the Beatles. It's sorta a wierd take on it but I like it. :)
-
I kind of like the cover that Jane's Addiction did of the Grateful Dead song Ripple. Not your typical Jane's song, but pretty damn cool and catchy, IMO.
-
Jimi Hendrix covers Wild Thing(by the Troggs)...:D
-
Baker Street by Foo Fighters. Guitar in place of the sax part is really cool.
-
Thanx Regurge... just d/l it. You're right.. it's cool. :)

I'm so ashamed of myself.
BTW Wasn't "I fought the Law" just Mike Ness?
