My girlfriend, Tomato, has just bought a Fujitsu-Siemens Lifebook C-series notebook/laptop. It has W-XP preinstalled. It seems to work OK - except that we can't get a peep out of the modem. Every time we try to dial, we get Error 680 - no dial tone. We've checked the cable using her other laptop - all OK. Also, doing that Query Modem function does actually produce a response from the modem. So... just looking at the diagnostics, all seems to be well - device working properly etc., yap-yap... but no dial tone, and no error messages to help us begin to understand what's wrong. Any ideas?

Be sure that you plug the phone line into the port for the phone line and not the one for the telehone. Sometimes they're mislabeled.
Not likely the cause of your problem, but it's worth a shot.

LOL! Thanks - there was another leetle socket - looked too small!

I've done that before too.
