Invisable planes where a big ugly bug in AH. In IL-2 online, they apparently are a feature. This has to be the most idiotic thing I have run across in simming. Did they ever do anything about it?
-
Been flying IL2 online very much the last 2 months - never experienced anything like invisible planes!
Well, you'll only find me on IOW,VEF or DiD servers (16 people max, full real, no icons) - might be different on dogfight servers!
---
I really enjoy every battle! It's for the mission - not the kills!
-
Thats just stories from people lacking something called "situational awarness" :p
-
Yes, or from people lacking the blind devotion that comes from fanboi fanatasism.
Bend over for Oleg!

Have you actually tried Il-2 or is this here-say ?
I have flown AH for almost 2 years, and Il-2 about a year.
Experience:
No invisible planes in Il-2 so far.
One (1) incident with invisible plane in AH.
-
Heh.. oops :D
-
I never heard anything about invisible planes in il2. Invisible Cockpits yes :)
What I dont like about il2 no icon is the "color" of the dots at distance. The vvs aircraft fade to grey specs that I am completely unable to track even with a 21 monitor.
I have never been killed by an invisible plane like ah, nor I have I had them just vanish like in wwiiol.
Oh and the view from the 190 cockpit in il2 is complete crap. :)
-
It is so sad when people today can't put up any better arguments than the "fanboi" accusations in lack of better argument :(
-
Have to agree with you on that one fishu. This one seems to be coming out of left field.
AKDejaVu
P.S. Its best not to come into every Il-2 thread ready to "argue"

From the IL-2 BBS
Unfortunately, it is also INVISIBLE to all except the host for the whole game. It can shoot you down, but only the host can see it. Several people have tested this and it's been verified by myself and others.
So no flyable planes can enter the game after the humans do.
Were it not for this "invisible plane glitch" there would be no need for either of my suggestions.
-
Well, not much more to say except that after flying Il-2 I just cannot make myself like the AH again.
It is money well spent for me and I can honestly recommend it to anyone willing to try a new sim.
If you're not willing to give it a fair chance and limit yourself to slamming it based on here-say, I can't help you.
-
Its not here say. It happened to me 2 out of the three arenas I tried. Not much of a test, I admit. But my patients with invisible planes is very, limited.
FWIW. I wish the online game WAS better. I think this IS the direction flight sims should take.
-
Ive never seen an invisible plane..........
-
Good one Yeager, neither have I but they do exist.
It is no secret that I consider IL2 the best WWII flightsim ever, ONLINE or off, but it is not perfect.
For our purposes here we look at Online play only.
Easymo, a bit hostile there with the feature comment, eh?
You are sort of right though, invisible planes do happen in IL2 Coops.
There is, however, a simple solution and it works.
I have been doing IL2 online almost daily since it was released.
Coop only, dogfight servers are just like AH MA furballs only with more detail.
I encountered the "Invisible Plane Feature" personally for the first time last night.
This will take a minute so if anyone has things to do, go ahead.
OK, after waiting in Hyperlobby for a 14 slot Coop to fill up, (the part that most MMOG folks hate), I as host or as a player launch/have launched, the mission.
It takes a minute to load and then I select the mission and it takes another minute to send it to the other 13 guys(another part most MMOG folks hate).
As players get the mission they show as joined and go to the A/C selection screen and pick a plane.
This is where the Invisible deal pops up.
Say I want the third IL2 listed and the slot is empty but I cannot select it.
Why?
Because easymo, who I see as not having selected a plane yet, his name is still on the list under the planes, not in one, has actually selected that plane.
OK, I see the slot blank, no one else does or 2 other people do(number is arbitrary), if I launch the game at this point I will not see easymo in the game nor will anyone else that saw his slot blank on launch.
Solution?
easymo exits the mission and then reconnects.
Simple and ALWAYS works, when he returns and selects a plane I will see him and so will the others.
Why did it take well over a year for me to actually see....oops not see someone in the game?
Because he was in the plane right next to me, I knew he was there because everyone else could see him and said so.
In the mission I watched as 2 109s, one human controlled, one AI, engaged this invisible plane, they could see him, I could not.
So, for those still awake, yes there is an invisible plane bug in IL2.
Is it common? No
Is there a very simple solution? Yes
easymo, you have an open invitation to join any coop I host in Hyperlobby and IF we encounter the empty slot deal I will insist the person we or either of us or any other player cannot see in a plane slot, reconnect to prove to you that reconnection solves the problem.
I will also (SHUDDER!) turn on icons so when in game we can find him for sure
Disclaimer: I have no clue how the bug manifests in Dogfight Servers but if it were a common occurrance the boards at Ubisoft and SimHq would explode so I gather it is not a big....or even a small problem.
Look guys, AH is amazing, it works well and got my money for quite awhile.
It is MMOG and perfect for you who want that feature, 24/7 world and all, so IL2 will not fill your needs (not yet anyhow but check out Olegs Ready Room at Ubisoft IL2 board for developments), no problem there at all.
IL2 online is perfect for those of us who do not mind waiting for missions and are not worried if there are not 200 others somewhere on the map or the world is there 24/7 for immediate use.
Both have flaws, both do extremely well what they try to do.
For anyone reading here interested in some fantastic, nail biting coops, join me in Hyperlobby any time you take a break from AH, I have DSL and can host 16 with no problem and mayhem and chaos in the air and on the ground is a given.
Was Sunchaser here, am Sunchaser there.

:p
at least he said never 'experienced' but you had to go the one step further.

Uhm.... there's another bug they can't fix... AI planes that spawn late in the mission, only the host can see them, no one else can.
Not a big deal, but was supposed to be fixed in 1.2.
The biggest problem with Il2 is waiting for the very few guys that host relatively realistic missions... or the guys that are willing to host early war missions.
It gets so tiresome waiting for a coop to fire up, you finally launch, load the mission... find out it's loaded with Il2 3M, Yak9T, Yak-3, La5FN, Yak9K, 109G6 Late, 109G6/AS, 190A8...
Then the dogfight servers are largely populated by the "pop the flaps to slow down quickly" crowd that are only competent when in the La5FN.... can find very few if any good servers with a good plane setup and ground targets...

Well, can you tell me the distinguishing factor between this, and the N1k/La7/Spit Hordes in Aces High?

Again, is this not how it works in Aces High? The only difference I see with Aces High, is that you may see ahead of time the aircraft that are intended to be used along with what ordinance loadout prior to joining.

I'm not comparing it to AH, you are.
I am expressing my dislike for the lack of servers that have good setups, in a game where every host can set up different eras.
It is no different than AH in terms of who flies what, and that's why I am disappointed.

I agree about limited servers of quality in IL2.
It's much like H2h in that respect.
Now if they could implement something like the future Mission Arena.... I'd be spending a lot of time there.
