Post by: Sabre on November 04, 2002, 09:10:57 AM
What's the word on Fin-Rus map?  I'm up for this Friday, and would love to run this one at that time.  Have you sent it in to HTC yet for quality-control check and upload to the server?

I heard Kanttori is having some problems with his internet connection. I'm sure he'll reply here as soon as he gets back online. :)

Thanks, Camo.  You wouldn't happen to know if he's sent his Fin-Russ terrain to HTC yet, do you?

Sabre, sent this to you via the BBS e-mailer...it obviously didn't come through...

"Kanttori is suffering from a network outage and thus can't tell this to you by himself.

He told me to inform you that unfortunately the map won't be ready for the next friday's CT setup. :(

Kanttori has had some problems with the skins (colour diffusion...makes ugly pixels when converting from 24bit to 256 color). He now has  a program from Pokie which will help him to solve those skins issues but the new patch for the TE hasn't arrived and some things (don't know exactly what he's talking about) can't be solved without it. He said that the new patch was supposed to be released last thursday.

Kanttori says that his online blackout will probably last at least this week.

He's really sorry for this since you've been very enthusiastic about this map and he wanted very much it to be setup by you on this friday. :(

P.S I sent this E-mail with BBS' e-mail sender thingy...could you inform me if you get it thanks!"

Wmaker, thanks for the update.  I hope Kanttori gets back on soon, as we miss him on the boards and in the CT.  While this means I'll need another setup for this Friday, rest assured the Continuation War will be in the rotation pretty quickly after the terrain becomes available.  I know any of the CT staffers would be happy to be handed such a nice set up to run.  In the mean time, I've got another set up in the can, which I will run this weekend.  By the way, I did not get the e-mail as of last night, when I checked.

they last a week.... and it takes quite a while before one comes around in the rotation again it seems.

maybe 6-8 weeks.. meaning there are about 6-8 fairly standard maps/setups.

Great to hear that you have a setup allready worked out! :) We both hoped we wouldn't put you in a bad spot with no setup at hand and no time to figure one out, glad that didn't happen. :)

Good luck with the CM'ing!

Hello Sabre!

I'm sorry I have been away long long time...:( Reason is simple: my internet account is lost about 2 weeks (money problem), but after that I'm coming back!

WMaker told the main things of the FinRus map problems. One reason he didn't tell:

I must wait the update of the Terrain Editor, because I have used  couple of new objects (for example plane dugouts) and I heard later that they have bugs. You cannot use the map in live arenas before the bugs are away!

Those objects, like plane dugouts, are very necessary in my little airfields, because they are VERY custom made!  :D

I can only wait the TE update... I think you can still use the map before XMas!:D :D

Ps. Now I have had time to finish the map (no hurry and panic) and it is not bad thing: For ex. I have made new urban area texture and it is now much more better and realistic than the older one. I have made more skins and very many little details, too.  ;)

Great to hear from you, Kanttori, and sorry to hear you're having money problems.  I sincerely hope things turn around for you.  I always try to have a plan-B (back-up plan) when I'm dealing with a new terrain...don't worry about it.  I'm still excited by the excellent possibilities of the Fin-Russ terrain.  I imagine it would make a nice Tour of Duty set up as well.  Heck, if we ever get the Brewster, it would make a great scenario as well.  Here's hoping;).

, Kanttori.  Will you be sending it to HTC for approval soon?  Very anxious to run this one.  It really looks like fun.  I just hope my hand has healed enough to fly before Fin-Russ runs in the CT.

Hello Sabre!

We look on next week all the skins and little details in H2H arena from my map. I think there is no bugs or not many errors nowdays...

After that I send it to HTC (monday 1. december) and look, what they says about my "bugged" (?) dugouts... :D I am not sure, are there error on that object, because map works good in H2H!

I am just creting and editing the last skins to planes:

P40B, P40E, A20G and and IL2. It is about one day work.

I have now four Finnish made "Red Stars" books, and there are very good coloured profiles from those planes! Have you seen those books (they are written english/finnish and there are great pictures from Soviet planes, lend leaces, too)?

I think it is ready to download from HTC after two weeks, if there are not problems with those new Terrain Editor objects!

LOL! Two weeks?!?  You really should ask HTC for a job.  You have the standard answer for "When?" memorized very well;).  Sounds great, and I can't wait to fly in it.  Regarding the books you mentioned, no; I haven't seen them before.  They sound very nice.  By the way, I've spoken to the CM Terrain team, suggesting they consider using your terrain for a scenario.  I hope they do.

Sabre,

I think this is the link that Kanttori meant:

http://www.savanne.org/ah/tiedostot.html

The terrain isn't there yet, but it should be up soon. :)

Sabre.
I know excitment is running high for you with this Finlan map, if you get it, can the setup after be a mid to late war Western Europe? Seriously not Malta, not Russia, not P40s, and HurriIIs vs 109Es, F's and 202s again.  Not F4Fs vs some other early war yawner. Remeber the USAAF/RAF vs the Luftwaffe in 1944, and 1945??:D

Don't care WHAT MAP it is as long as you can fly a P-47 from it!

HY KINGDOM FOR A SCENARIO IN THE CT YOU CAN FLY A JUGG FROM!

Thanks for the update, Wmaker.  I'm gonna come up with an alternate set up for the weekend, just in case there are any problems with the Finland-Russia map, or if HTC can't get it checked in time.  We should know by Thursday if it will be approved in time.  In the mean time, I'll come up with something else as back up.

Hello Sabre!

I FINALLY SEND IT TO HTC!:D

Sending time: wednesday 4th of December 15:00 GMT (American forenoon). I hope Ronni and HTC has enough time to check the map and put it to download pages (two working days).

I know there is any big errors in the map, because I checked it about thousand times... Maybe they can do it quickly!

And remember put the Stuka to Germany fields (39-53, 72, 75 and 76) if it is coming in this week!

Can you please send to me your Combat theater setup/plan to my work e-mail:

Thanks for the update, Kanttori.  I'll check with Ronni Friday morning.  I've got another set up ready for this weekend, if things don't come together in time to run "Continuation War."  I'm posting it, so people will know it's one or the other.  I'm sure if we can't run it this week, it will be up the following week.  Thanks for all your hard work.  I'll post the set up, and also send it to you, tomorrow at the latest.  It will stay pretty close to your suggested planeset and field choices, I believe.

Ronni e-mailed me on weekend:

There was one error in my map: Knights didn't have any airfield. I must put one Knights field to Stockholm/Sweden but you cannot take any planes from there! :D

I send update to Ronni on monday, so I think the map is ready on next weekend...
