Must be one of them new-fangled uber-high shutter speed digital cameras.. did you know that technology was perfected by Kurt Tank?

Sling...forgive my ignorance, but when I was in Grapevine I picked up a P51 (for me) and a P-47 (for my son) in a toy store in the mall close to the Embassy Suites.  They cost $15 each.  They are die-cast metal and are quite well made (in China).  These planes are far more expensive...why?

I have never used e-bay and don't really want to...where else can you get them?  Like a store that sell them?

I want to pick up a few more.

These are 1:48 scale, and done by Armour... Armour recently was bought out and is now a different company. Everything is identical between the two companies, but now it says something else instead of "Armour" on the bottom of the plane.

Of course, that doesn't effect the cost... but these are 1:48, you probably got something significantly smaller (1/72nd).. these are more detailed.

Mine doesn't say Armour on it...but it IS 1:48.  There is no brand name on the plane.  There is "No. 76336" right above the Made in China stamp.

I'll try and post a pick tomorrow...camera is at home.

Well, between each company you will find some models are far more detailed/accurate/nicer display models...

I dunno what company you bought yours from, so I can't comment.. but typically Armour (and Corgi) do very detailed models that are above and beyond the average die-cast model you can buy.

Is there an online store that you know of, as opposed to E-bay, where I can get some more?

There's one... it'll tell you on the page that Armour has changed to Fanklin Mint and the only difference is the name stamped on them...

Below all that are a bunch of blue links, each of those are types of models listed by company name, size, and type (jets, props, civil)

That's all I know off.

This is the Matchbox collecters series F6F-5 in 1:72. One of the best I've seen at the smaller size. These retail at about $15.

The Matchbox ones are nice also, but most of my others are 1:48th scale and I would like to keep the collection consistent in that regard.  I also had a hard time finding the Matchbox planes anywhere.

Curval - As SWulfe said the difference is mainly in the detail.  I have a P51 and a P47 that I purchased that are not Armour and the detail difference is just amazing.  Armour puts out some very very detailed models.  And they are heavy sons of beetches also.  The P-38 that I have from them weighs about 8 pounds and the B-25 is about 11 pounds.

Funny you posted the Aiken's site Wulfe....I was just browsing thru it myself.  Most of their aircraft are $89.95 each....you can usually get them for a little less if you can win an auction for them.  Most of the time I do the "buy it now" option on Ebay and dont wait for the end of the auction.

I guess it all depends on what you want to spend per plane....I really like the detail level on the Armour stuff so I am willing to spend the extra few dollars.  I only purchase one every month or so.

Check out the YatMing planes on the Aikens site.  I dont know how detailed they are but judging from the pictures, they look decent.  And they are quite a bit less expensive than the Armour stuff.

Has Corgi and other models.  I get most of my mail-order stuff through them.

Gofaster....how does the Corgi stuff look detail-wise?  Would you put it in the same class as Armour?  The Corgi 1:72 scale stuff looks pretty sharp in the pictures.

I have a Corgi 1:48 109E done in Werner Moelders BoB scheme..

It's very nice, pilot looks pretty good.. and it even has the aileron balance weights on it (the weights break easily if the model is knocked down by a cat on "break everything" patrol)...

It comes with a set of landing gear, one that for extended (the push into some holes on the bottom of the wings, but it isn't noticeable that they are detachable) and also a set that's retracted for hanging the model. Engine cowling also comes off to show the engine (just a black rectangle with some details etched into it).

Plastic, glue, and paint can make a model much better than those (not that those aren't nice, I just prefer to make them myself).

Check out http://www.hyperscale.com

Some impressive models there.  I wish I could make them close to that good.

Oh well, gonna go work on the F-4 Phantom when I get home.  Excellent way to unwind for a few hours after a long day of beating kids for being late to class or walking on the grass.

btw, here is the Phantom that I am making a model of:

Yeah but I usually end up with at least 2 or 3 fingers glued together when I try to build them myself.  Its much easier to let someone diecast them for me.  I was going to bring my F6F-5 with me to the con but with the recent influx of AW pile-its, I didnt feel that it would have been safe to leave it on display on top of my monitor.  :D
