Title: ND Isles - who else can't stand it?
Post by: Kratzer on November 11, 2001, 03:26:00 PM
I thought it was just me, but it is very unpopular among the guys I've talked to.  My complaints are that the distances result in  a giant furball between each country, and if I try to fly my C.205 to a smaller fight somewhere else, I have to turn around and come right back to get gas.  This map also seems to kill us on spawn fairly regularly, and won't let me record films.  It is so frustrating that several of us just wait for the next map in the rotation before playing.

Anyone else?

I agree.  I say if the war hasn't been won in a certain amount of time, the map is rotated automatically.  Anyone else agree?

oct out!!

NDisles sucks. I'll be back up when it rotates.

I don't mind it too much, like all the map's too much of a good thing gets old. The fields for the most part are not realy any farter apart than the other's on other maps, it just seams so. I like the CV aspect and the watter, the nead to use goons more often, and the slightly longer drives for GV's adds a different aspect to game play. I also like how the strat facilitys are spread out and avalable for atack, at least more so than those on some of the other maps. barges or convoys( ship) for suplying these would be cool to see in the future.

ND Isles and Lake Uterus are almost tied for last in my book. Neither one of these maps is real interesting to me. At least the Lake seems to reset a bit quicker.

Either Isles last forever or it just seems like it does.  ;)

Better strat, more conducive to missions, ability to get to alt b4 an attack.  Vulching reduced due to range.  CV's more useful.  And the main island is always good for GV battles and furballing when I feel like it.

I like all of the maps we have.

I think a rotation through all of the maps really rounds out the perk system HTC has in place, and gives us ample exposure to several aspects of war gaming that you can't get anywhere else.

Whining about the map indicates to me that you haven't found a way to fit in on the current map. That is a trait common amongst many of our newer members. The Bishops should have had this map reset on at least three different occasions, but there are still a lot of people that don't even know what reset is!

If, you don't like flying far to find a fight, well then start a fight in one of the many locations where you have a closer field. This is not hard to accomplish.

If, you don't feel like capturing fields and would prefer an endless furball, well that's available too.

StSanta, I have to counter that those same 'CV Dweebs' have some of the greatest fun this game can provide. Ship-to-ship battles, while simultaneously holding off suicide turds, is a great deal of fun; and then there's field assaults from the fleet. Man, you just can't get that in any other game! I love it.

After the AW guys get settled in, and get used to cooperation, this reset idea is going to rock!

I like the ND terrain.  It brings in the use of CV's more, and the layout is nice.  What can I say.   :)

What kinda country would not have carriers in WWII??   That would really be dumb.   They would have to be very backward.  Heck... They would probly have lousy planes with short range only capability and no heavy bombers and ..  oh, wait.... Nevermind.

ND Isles is a favorite here as well.  Mostly because of the ability to actually use CV's.  Naval battles are severely limited in most other maps.  It provides a good deal of low level furballin' especially when a CV is off the coast or when A1 and A5 are owned by opposite sides.  Strategic bombing has a purpose in this map, although I very rarely fly bombers (once per month, avg).  With a bomber or two, it is possible to actually degrade the warfighting ability of another side without having to actually capture a base.  Fighting is also more intense when it comes to defending "your island."  The only drawback is that it is far too easy for two sides to fight a third with 2:1 odds.  Still its not quite as bad as the Lake Ute map in this respect.

Well I like it for some reasons but for others I do not like it. I like the fact that you are "forced" to use more CV planes than the other maps. While on the other hand when I am in my favorite rides (Fw-190F-8, 190A-5 or C205) you are seriously limited in range. That is if you have to fly over water to reach a base with sufficient altitude.

Then most of my squadron mates (Kratzer is one of them) don't really care for it. So that makes it tough to find wingmen to fly with that know your moves and vice versa. Also it depends on my mood of the time if I really like it or not..... :D Like how many times I have runway deaths due to that bug.

NDISLEs has more options for attack and not the same obvious routes for capturing fields.  It also has furball island in the middle so the furballers don't have far to fly as long as all 3 countries have a field there.

It does seem a little small with the increased numbers in the MA though and typically if the SE country gets pushed into the corner then it deteriorates into stalemate for days on end.

On a scale of 1 - 5
5 being Heaven & 1 being Hell.

Ndisles = 4
Baltic  = 4
Uterus  = 3
Mindanao= 2

S!

I kinda like the Isles.  Lots of CV action.  Although it does tend to provoke big furballs in one location.

I think that the problem with NDisles is faults in base locations. North country is NEVER conquered, South-Eastern country is just about ALWAYS conquered. If the weekest country of the tour happens to be at north, it can defend it easily while stronger countries can also defend the worse areas... fight lasts much longer.

This same problem exists at Mindanao. West country is a fortress. it is either NE or SE that gets resetted.

Bases should be placed so that there are no obvious week spots and no obvious strong spots... or at least so that there are equal amount of both for each country. I dont particularly like CVs but they can sometimes even out some of those spots.... if the ack was only made more reasonable.

haha.  Well, if you open the canopy and fart hard enough and long enough over enemy territory you might get accused of bio-warfare.

I Love ndilses.  Because the front lines between countries is longer and allows you to escape the massive furballs and gangbangs.
It's usually possible to find somewhere where two or three of you can fight against 2 or three enemy.

ON a similar theme I have to say that I am getting quite freaked out with the current mindano terrain.  Last night (Mon 12th) the arena was just one massive furball.  There were cons at every altitude.  It seemed the only way to avoid it was to climb to 25k+ and even then you were gettin jumped by 30k N1k2's   :mad:

What we need is a larger map, with all the AW guys comin over and of course they're welcome plus the additional traffic generated by the price cut.  HTC and the terrain guys should really think of using the larger map.  Otherwise AH is just going to degenerate to a state where good tactics and ACM mean nothing.  After twice being killed by killshootering guys who were stealing my kills I ended up logging in disguist.

All I've seen in ND Isles are furballs - HUGE furballs, with no fights anywhere else.  Can't remember the thread, but someone said they hate a gangbang no matter which side of it they are on... I agree!

Mindanao degenerates to furballs in the same locations everytime. A4-A5 and A28-A31. I must have heard "bring a goon to D64" 10 times yesterday. The west country has a very advantageous position. They really only need to defend 2 or 3 bases. The country in the south is going to get their bellybutton kicked unless they have overwhelming numbers. Still prefer it over NDisles, but they're neck and neck for suckiness.

I enjoyed the Baltic map the most I think. I'd like to see a map like that with actual city names and some type of strategic targets in those locations.
