however, yeah.. I've 'skated' on it.

it isn't exactly like ice but it's a good alternative.
The one glaring problem IMO is that the puck doesn't travel the same as it does on ice.

Joe - I played hockey in HS and college - never used that exact product, but something similar - its about as good as you can get not being on the ice - that said, for the cost you might as well buy ice time.

problem is, i live 50 minutes away from ice. and i only get 2 hours a week with a stick in my hands. if i get more, its public skateing.

Can't you flood the back yard or something ?   ;)
Saurdaukar is right.. the stuff is expensive.

also the rub burns are rough (don't wear shorts without pads)

sounds like a move to a climate that actually has winter is in order.. for both of ya!   :)

we place our beers outside when we want them cooled...
we have to sweep the snow off the ice to skate...

actually I almost forgot... you being in the climate you're in (hot, humid, rainy)

this stuff is slicker than ice when it's wet.
You may even lose your edge on it ..
so if it's so humid that moisture beads on the surface, watch out!

it's unpredictable when wet.. at least the stuff we used to skate on was (and I'm sure it's similar).
it's made of UHMW (ultra high molecular weight) material and is tough stuff but scarey when wet.

also, like I aluded to before, the puck doesn't move the same and if you include water on the surface it gets really weird.

IMO if you're just worried about 'stick time' you should practice with roller blades.
it gives you the same hand-eye coordination due to being the same basic height, stick length, movement, etc.

here is nother problem: i only use hockey stick on ice. if i use it on the concreat, road, driveway... the stick tears up. i go to target (far away, 40 minutes) and buy $20 stick that can be used on the street without tearing up. it lasts one or two weeks then it breaks. i go buy another one. next day it breaks during slapshot :(.

that is why i only use hockey sticks on ice.


edit: its startin to get cold here. that'll only last a few months tho.
