The drug barons are of course. Despite the fact that the good guys are better armed. Americas drug users arent helping the cause either.

Cough, cough, puts on flame vest, jumps off stage.

The house is on fire!!!

a few men in black with remote control airplanes could change all that in a matter of months - if the gov really wanted to. ONCE the link DRUGS=TERRORIST=DRUGS=TERRORIST is firmly established both legally and in the minds of sober America, the door will be wide open for any action.

People who would trade Freedom for Security deserve neither.

Spoken long ago and still cutting edge today.

Some would say that happened on 110901, i couldn't possibly comment...

No war on drugs is going to stop people getting high. Ever.

And if we are going to have a war on drugs, how bout bombing all them tobacco producing states huh? No of course it's not gonna happen.

I would have thought that the US (and other enlightened states) would have absorbed the lessons of the Prohibition Era by now but it seems not.

Drugs are a handy enemy that can be whipped out at a moments notice, and coupled with suitable PR campaign, will succeed in stirring up an ignorant public frenzy directed at almost anything you like.

Drugs are also a very good way for the 'intelligence' agencies of the world to ensnare moles, and raise oodles of unofficial income. The end of prohibition would put a stop to that.

Prohibition is pointless, it merely serves to increase the harm to everyone from substances of abuse, whether they abuse them, use them or don't even know they exist.

Criminals find drugs to be a great way of making money too (note, for once I distinguish between 'criminals' and "'intelligence' agencies'. This is because the 'intelligence' agencies are only criminals when they use prohibited drugs to raise invisible revenue)

And that's the extent of your DRUGS=TERRORISTS=DRUGS=TERRORISTS argument (if I can call it that) Eager. Terrorists (and many others) use drugs (in most cases cheap, fast growing crops that can be bought for pittance) to sell at hugely inflated prices to raise revenue for Weapons and Materiel.

Of course, if you could just pop down to the drugstore and pick up some new fast acting psychedelic or stimulant, then it drugs be less of a revenue source for society's ne'er-do-wells. Say about as big a revenue source as the black market in Bisodol.

Heck just think of the extra tax dollars Eli Lilly, Pfizer, GlaxoWellcome and Novartis would contribute if they can sell recreational and therapeutic drugs that were formerly Scheduled. It could all be used in the avacado.

It's a very interesting topic in my opinion, because it revolves around personal freedoms. IMO i am sovereign over my body and no-one else. I should be permitted to ingest what I please.

Drug users take note : It is perfectly possible to get high without contributing money to CIA/Mafia/Al Qaeda. It's simple really, Drugs grow on trees, there's no need to buy them apart from laziness.

bounder, you are right on one thing, the dopers may want to start growing/cooking their own

Interestingly the Hezbollah have become involved in the issue of Farmers in the Lebanon, fighting for the right to grow hash, like they had been doing for hundreds of years. The finest hash in the world (some may argue) was produced there once. When the civil war broke out cannabis derivatives were already illegal in many european coutries and hash farming exploded to fund the warring parties, since the profits:acreage ratio had suddenly become astronomical.

The demand for illegal drugs fuels a cash pipeline from which many human killing scum feed their hateful enterprises.

The demand for legal drugs fuels a multibillion dollar industry from which valuable and life saving research springs forth.

I'm all for the consumer capitalist model in this case, but free trade should mean exactly that.

Anyways, it's a bit of a pet subject so I'd better sit back in case I start ranting.
